A teenager is facing many years behind bars after being accused of killing her newborn baby, according to police in El Salvador. Cojutepeque police said that they have arrested 19-year-old Evelyn Beatriz Hernandez Cruz, after being accused of throwing her newborn baby into a toilet. Cruz has been charged with one count of aggravated homicide. A judge sentenced the teenager to serve 30 years in prison after being convicted of the charge.
According to the police investigation, Cruz gave birth at home. Cruz then threw her newborn baby boy into a toilet with the intent to kill him. Cruz claimed that she had been raped multiple times by a gang member. She did not report the rape to police because she was afraid. Cruz said that she did not know she was pregnant, and she gave birth to a dead baby in her home. Cruz claimed that when she threw the baby into the toilet he was already dead.
