China plans to scrap birth limits

China is planning on scrapping all restrictions on the number of children a family can have, according to reports. Bloomberg says the government, led by President Xi Jinping, want to address the country's aging population and international criticism of the policy. Two years ago China began to relax it's notorious one child policy that meant families could only have a single offspring, though couples still had to apply for permits.
Put in place 40 years ago, it has resulted in a huge imbalance between men and women, with 30 million more of the former than the latter. China's cabinet has commissioned research into fully ending the policy, according to an unnamed source who has spoken to the news site. Proposals would allow the population to choose the number of children they have themselves, with a formal announcement either this year or next.
