Tanzania: 69-year-old lecturer who demanded s.e.x in order to give good marks jailed (photo)


Samson Mahimbo, a 69-year-old college lecturer from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, has been sentenced to three years in jail, with an alternative of Tsh5 million (Ksh220, 000) fine, after he pleaded guilty to demanding s.e.x from his student in order to award her good marks in a supplementary exam. The ruling was delivered on Tuesday, November 26, at the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in Dar es Salaam.

 Mariah Carey has been honored by Guinness World Records after her 1994 hit holiday track “All I Want for Christmas Is You” broke three records.  The Guinness World Records organization announced on their website that the pop diva has set three world records with her Christmas classic.
 'The song broke the record for highest-charting holiday (Christmas/New Year) song on the Billboard U.S. Hot 100 by a solo artist. The song also set the bar for most-streamed track on Spotify in 24 hours by a female artist, with 10,819,009 streams last December, as well as the record for most weeks in the U.K. singles Top 10 chart for a Christmas song at 20 weeks.'

Flight turns deadly as plane is struck by lightning


A routine flight recently turned into a nightmare after the plane was struck by lightning during a thunderstorm. Passengers were left fearing for their lives after a plane which was flying from Livingstone to Lusaka was struck by lightning in a wild thunderstorm.
Fortunately, the Captain, Walter Nhiliziyo managed to descend and to safely land the plane in Lusaka

Actor Godfrey Gao dies after collapsing while filming variety show in China


Godfrey Gao, a Taiwanese-Canadian model and actor has died after he collapsed while filming a variety show in China. He was 35.  His agency, JetStar Entertainment, confirmed his death on Wednesday, saying he was rushed to a hospital, where he died after nearly three hours.
 "We are shocked and saddened" by the incident, JetStar said, adding that representatives were "always directly by his side, whilst his family is rushing to the scene."

Police officer 'shot herself after being made to work with man who r.a.p.e.d her'


A high-flying female detective reportedly used her police handgun to kill herself after being forced to 'work with a male colleague she'd accused of raping her'.
Maria Klochkova, 23, had started her dream job as a criminal investigator in August after graduating with the highest grades and being fast tracked into the police. But her life was ruined by a reported culture of bullying which culminated in her being subjected to a violent sexual attack by a more senior detective, she said.

Fans hold up 'Emery Out' signs as Arsenal slump to 2-1 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt


Arsenal are in trouble right now and the club hit a new low on Thursday night - quite literally.
Supporters decided to stay away for their Europa League game against Eintracht Frankfurt, meaning there was reportedly a record-low attendance at Emirates Stadium.
Those Gunners fans who did attend were left unimpressed by what they saw over 90 minutes, as Unai Emery's side slipped to another defeat.
Despite taking the lead through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, a second-half double from Daichi Kamada saw Frankfurt turn the game around and leave north London with three points.

Sir Mo Farah confirms return to track athletics for 2020 Olympics in Tokyo


Sir Mo Farah has unexpectedly confirmed he will return to track athletics for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. After competing over the marathon since the 2017 World Athletics Championships, the 36-year-old will now make an attempt to retain the 10,000-metre Olympic crown he won in 2012 and 2016.
"After Chicago, I decided to take a nice break with my family," Farah explained on his YouTube channel. "I really enjoyed it and it's been nice to compete in the marathon over the last few years.

Unai Emery sacked by Arsenal


Unai Emery was finally put out of his misery by Arsenal on Friday morning. The beleaguered Spanish coach, who watched on helplessly as his team were beaten 2-1 by Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League on Thursday night, was sacked following a run of hugely underwhelming performances.
Arsenal are now on a seven-match winless run stretching back to October 24. Freddie Ljungberg has been appointed as the club’s interim manager and now faces the unenviable task of turning things around at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners face Norwich City at Carrow Road this weekend, while Arsenal officials begin the hunt for Emery’s permanent successor.
Max Allegri is the current favourite with the bookmakers, followed by Nuno Espirito Santo and Mikel Arteta.

Update: Ex-Liverpool and Real Madrid star Xabi Alonso acquitted of tax fraud in Spain


Former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder, Xabi Alonso has been acquitted of tax fraud in Spain. The Spainaird, 38, and current coach of Segunda División B club Real Sociedad B was tried for three counts of tax fraud state prosecutors said he had committed between 2010 and 2012. He was playing for Real Madrid at the time. According to prosecutors, the case revolved around nearly £2million Alonso evaded in tax from image rights. But the former footballer repeatedly protested his innocence and even decided to go to trial instead of paying the Spanish Treasury the tax it was claiming plus fines.

Manchester City owner, Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan sells 10% of his shares in the club for $500 million


Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, owner of English Premier League champions, Manchester City and City Football Group, has sold about 10 per cent of the shares to Silver Lake, a private equity investor for about $500 million.   The deal values City Football Group at US$4.8B post-investment. Apart from its ownership of Manchester City, CFG is the owner of football clubs and related businesses, including New York City FC, Melbourne City FC, Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan, Club Atletico Torque in Uruguay, Girona FC in Spain and Sichuan Jiuniu FC in China.

Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix has been awarded the 2019 Golden Boy gong after a stellar year where he became one of the most expensive players of all time, Italian sports newspaper Tuttosport announced on Wednesday. The 20-year-old received 332 votes to beat Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho (175 votes) and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz (75 votes) to pick up the award that recognises players under the age of 21.

Gary Rhodes, British celebrity chef, dead at 59


British celebrity chef Gary Rhodes has died aged 59, his family says. In a statement reported by the PA Media news agency, the family said: "The Rhodes family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of beloved husband, father and brother, Gary Rhodes OBE."
The family said Rhodes died on Tuesday evening with his wife Jennie at his side. Rhodes was filming a new series in Dubai for Rock Oyster Media and Goldfinch TV, the production companies said in a joint statement Wednesday.

Melania Trump booed by high and middle school students at opioid summit, Baltimore


Melania Trump was booed when she spoke about the battle with opioid addiction at a Youth Summit in Baltimore Tuesday. The first lady was loudly booed by the audience of mostly middle and high school students for about a minute when she walked on stage and again when she concluded her short remarks. Students also talked loudly over her when she addressed them, resulting in the first lady to briefly interrupt her remarks with a 'hello.'

US warns citizens against travelling to Burkina Faso


The U.S. has raised its travel advisory for Burkina Faso to level 4, advising citizens not to travel to the country “due to terrorism, crime, and kidnapping”.
In an advisory, the State Department said it had ordered all family members of U.S. government employees not of age to leave the West African country and said it had authorised the voluntary departure of non-emergency U.S. staff and family members.
“Terrorist groups continue plotting attacks in Burkina Faso. Terrorists may conduct attacks anywhere with little or no warning,” the State Department said. It added that the U.S. government is “unable to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens throughout most of the country”.

Billionaire and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg running for US President


Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has entered the race to become the next US president. Mr Bloomberg is officially entering as a candidate for the Democratic party. The 77-year-old billionaire announced the news on Twitter on Sunday afternoon.
He tweeted: "I’m running for president to defeat Donald Trump and rebuild America. I believe my unique set of experiences in business, government, and philanthropy will enable me to win and lead."

The Duke of York has been accused of 'hoodwinking' the Queen by not warning her he was about to discuss the scandal at length in a car crash BBC interview which aired last weekend. Days after the disastrous interview was aired Prince Andrew, 59, said he was stepping back from his royal duties.

Aeroflot pilot 'dies' during emergency landing after having 'heart attack' mid-air


A plane was forced to make an emergency landing after a pilot suffered a suspected heart attack in the cockpit before dying. The 49-year-old was flying the Russian state airline Aeroflot Airbus 320 on a domestic flight from Moscow at 33,000 ft when he became ill. The jet bound for the popular Black Sea resort of Anapa made an emergency landing at Platov International Airport in Rostov-on-Don  on Sunday where medical help was given to the pilot. But he was pronounced dead.

German museum releases photos of some of the jewelries stolen in the 'world's biggest heist'


Police have released the first images of items stolen from Dresden Castle during Monday's dramatic heist in Germany.  The treasures represent just a fraction of the over 100 artifacts believed to have been taken in the raid, which saw thieves smashing a glass display at the castle's Green Vault before fleeing.
 The announcement however demonstrates the grandeur contained within the museum's celebrated collection and hints at the scale of the loss.  Among the items revealed so far are a sword, a string of pearls and collection of priceless 18th-century jewels containing thousands of individual diamonds. Almost all of the artifacts were made during the rule of Frederick Augustus III, the last Elector of Saxony (later known as Frederick Augustus I, the first king of Saxony) and were mostly created by the court jewelers Jean Jacques Pallard and Christian August Globig, along with the latter's son August Gotthelf Globig.

A year after leaving jail, Buju Banton gets signed to Jay-z's label, Roc Nation


Reggae and Dance Hall artiste, Buju Banton has been signed by Jay-Z's record label, Roc Nation, almost a year after being released from prison.  The dance hall artiste, who served a 7 years jail sentence for intent to distribute cocaine was released in December 2018, has been signed to Jay-Z's roster, making him the second reggae artiste signed to Roc Nation after Damian Marley.
 "The connection was born from my association with the great queen, Miss Rihanna herself," Banton told Rolling Stone about how he signed his Roc Nation deal.

Firefighters battle new blaze in California


Hundreds of California firefighters on Tuesday battled a wind-driven brush fire that grew out of control overnight near Santa Barbara, threatening thousands of homes and prompting evacuation orders. The so-called “Cave Fire” that started on Monday in Los Padres National Forest, grew to nearly 4,300 acres (1,740 hectares) overnight as it moved toward populated areas in the cities of Santa Barbara, Goleta and nearby communities about a two hours’ drive north of Los Angeles.

Pig tied up in 'G-string' and driven to engagement party stuns motorists


Bizarre footage of a pig being tied up and driven in 'G-string' style on top of a pick-up truck left drivers in China baffled this month. The butchered animal was placed on the car roof while its hind legs were supported by a wooden board at the back, secured by a red string that crossed under the pig's thighs. The pick-up truck driver told Pear , a Chinese video-sharing platform, that the pig was an engagement gift to his future daughter-in-law. He had tied the body of the animal up as he drove from Fuyang to Shucheng.

T.I. has defended himself after he revealed that he subjects his daughter to regular checks to see if she is still a virgin. Earlier this month the musician caused outrage when he admitted he accompanies 18-year-old Deyjah Harris to the gynaecologist to make sure her 'hymen is still intact.'
He now claims that the examination happened when she was a younger teenager, and he exaggerated the story for comedic effect. Manchester United head coach Ole Gunnaer Solksjaer is reportedly fed up with Paul Pogba's tactics and wants the French star to leave in January. Man buried 22 years ago yet to decompose


The corpse of a Muslim man who died in India 22 years ago has failed to decompose in its grave, shocking the locals. When the body was taken out of the grave in Attara Road in the Baberu area of Banda district, Uttar Pradesh, the exhumers were stunned: the corpse has not decomposed. Even the shroud remains spotlessly white, said a report by Khaleej Times.
The locals are calling the discovery a “miracle” and said that the deceased, Nasir Ahmad, was a “good soul who had Allah’s blessings”.

Protesters desperate for 'answers' stormed United Nations base in DR Congo Monday evening after eight people were killed on Sunday night in an attack by armed fighters in the northeastern city of Beni.  The protesters marched on to the UN base, citing the United Nations' 'inability to act' to prevent the Sunday night attacks, and kept on advancing despite several gunshots fired into the air by Congolese military forces.

Georginio Wijnaldum is ready to walk off pitch if subjected to racist abuse


Liverpool and Holland star Georginio Wijnaldum says he would walk off the pitch if he experienced racist abuse, even if it was in the Champions League or the Euro 2020 final. The 29-year-old says he has been deeply affected by the number of racist incidents that have marred European football in recent months and passionately believes that leaving the field of play is the best way for players to combat such discrimination.
"Why should I play in that case?" he told CNN Sport when asked whether he would play on if subjected to racist chants from supporters.
"I think everyone should do it [walk off]. I think that's the way you support another person, because why should you go on? If you play on, it will never stop."

Gabrielle Union fired from 'America's Got Talent' for speaking up about racism and sexism: Report


Gabrielle Union will reportedly not be returning for the next season of America's Got Talent, and it turns out the Being Mary Jane star actually did not leave on her own terms. TODAY initially confirmed the initial news of Union's departure from the hit competition show, only mentioning that the actress will be busy in the coming year "with other projects."
However, according to LoveBScott, Union — who was a judge for one season — was fired after speaking out against some "problematic" situations that were taking place behind-the-scenes of the popular talent competition series, including racism, sexism and more. Her co-judge Julianne Hough will also not be returning for the next season.

Ship carrying more than 14,000 sheep overturns off the coast of Romania


A large cargo ship carrying more than 14,000 sheep has overturned off the coast of Romania, with rescuers scrambling to save the animals. The Queen Hind capsized on Sunday morning after leaving the port of Midia, near the south-eastern city of Constanța, on the Black Sea coastline.All crew members - 22 Syrian nationals - were rescued.
An operation involving police, firefighters and the Romanian coast guard was launched to save the sheep.

Dad jailed for life for raping daughter after cleaner found evidence under bed


A 45-year-old man has been jailed for life for raping his daughter after a cleaner discovered evidence of the barbaric act under her bed. The father, who cannot be named for legal reasons, abused the 14-year-old in Ackerville, South Africa.
The victim revealed she had been r.a.p.e.d after a domestic worker found scraps of toilet paper and a blood-stained white cloth beneath her bed.

Kenyan county bans drying of maize in open places


Uasin Gishu government has burnt drying of maize in open space over health concerns.
The agriculture department said it has imposed a ban on the rampant practice in the region due to exposure of food to contamination. Samuel Yego, the County Executive Committee (CEC) member for agriculture said the department was effecting the ban in the region that is also currently experiencing heavy rains.
“Drying of maize in the open within urban centers including outside the Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret have been banned on public health concerns to curb food contamination,” said Yego.
The CEC noted that the open maize drying by traders exposes grains to risk of pathogenic contamination due to the high humid and warm conditions that are conducive for aflatoxin effects.
Yego urged the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) to open their stores and assist farmers who would like to dry produce to recommended moisture contents.

Louis Vuitton buys Tiffany & co for $16bn


The world's biggest luxury goods company is buying US-based jeweller Tiffany & Co for more than $16bn. The deal gives LVMH's billionaire owner Bernard Arnault a bigger slice of one of the fastest growing luxury sectors. He said Tiffany had an "unparalleled heritage" and fitted with its other brands, Louis Vuitton and Bulgari.
Tiffany has suffered falling jewellery sales, hit by lower spending by tourists and a strong US dollar.

Kenya: President Uhuru destroys 8,700 illegal guns


President Uhuru Kenyatta Tuesday presided over the destruction of 8,700 illegal firearms and 366,000 bullets at the General Service Unit Magadi Field Training Campus in Kajiado County.
The President said the destruction of illegal firearms is one of the proactive measures being taken by the government to guarantee security and safety of its citizens and their property.

Slash emissions now or face climate disaster, UN warns


The United Nations Environment Programme said that global emissions need to fall by 7.6 percent each year until 2030 to limit global temperature rises to 1.5C. The harsh reality is that emissions have risen on average 1.5 percent annually over the last decade, hitting a record 55.3 billion tonnes of CO2 or equivalent greenhouse gases in 2018 -- three years after 195 countries signed the Paris treaty on climate change.
The World Meterological Organization said Monday that atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations hit an all-time record in 2018.

Guardiola rules out assistant Arteta leaving this season


Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has no doubts that his assistant Mikel Arteta will be a manager one day but has ruled out the possibility of the Spaniard taking over at another club during the current season.  Arteta is among the bookmakers' favourites to take over at his former club Arsenal if incumbent Unai Emery is sacked.

Russia's ability to host Euro 2020 football matches and its participation in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2020 Olympics could be under threat after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) recommended a four-year ban for non-compliance in doping investigations.
WADA's compliance review committee (CRC) suggested several sanctions because of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency's (RUSADA) failure to cooperate fully during probes into Russian sport.

Top bank CEO in Australia steps down over money laundering scandal


Two top executives at Westpac (WBK), one of Australia's biggest banks, are out after the company was hit with extensive claims that it had systematically allowed money laundering on its watch.
The company announced Tuesday that CEO Brian Hartzer will step down in the wake of allegations that the bank had violated money laundering and terrorism financing regulations tens of millions of times. Lindsay Maxsted, who serves as chairman of the board, will also move up his retirement to the first half of next year.

WikiLeaks founder: 60 doctors write British minister, say they fear his health is so bad he might die in prison


More than 60 doctors wrote an open letter published Monday saying they feared Julian Assange’s health was so bad that the WikiLeaks founder could die inside a top-security British jail. The 48-year-old Australian is still fighting a US bid to extradite him from Britain on charges filed under the Espionage Act that could see him given a sentence of up to 175 years in a US prison.
In the letter to Home Secretary Priti Patel, Britain’s interior minister, the doctors call for Assange to be moved from Belmarsh prison in southeast London to a university teaching hospital.

Thieves steal treasures and antiques worth one billion Euros from German Museum in massive raid (photos)



Burglars have carried out a massive raid on a German Museum on Monday morning carting away valuable antiques believed to be worth a billing euros.  The police in Germany are currently on the chase for bandits who broke into the very popular museum, 'Dresden castle' on Monday and stole valuables over 850million Euros.
 According to German magazine, Bild, the robbers cut off power supply to the museum at 5am and broke in, with their main targets being jewelry, diamonds and precious stones worth millions of pounds.

X Factor contestant Ariel Burdett dies at 38


X Factor contestant Ariel Burdett has died at the age of 38, it's reported. A friend says the singer, who appeared on the show in 2008, died earlier this month but a cause of death is yet to be revealed.
Ariel, whose real name is Amy Burdett, had one of the most memorable auditions in the show's history.
As she arrived to present herself to the judges she ripped her label on the floor, saying she was a "human being, not a number".

Six dead, scores injured as 6.4-magnitude earthquake hits Albania like never before (photos)


At least six people are dead and dozens are hurt as the biggest earthquake to hit Albania in decades levelled buildings, trapping people in the rubble and sparking panic among residents. Desperate battles are underway this morning to rescue victims from piles of rubble left by the 6.4-magnitude quake, which struck at 3:54am local time.
The epicenter was around 20 miles west of the heavily populated capital city of Tirana, between the coastal town of Durres and the city of Thumane, both of which suffered severe damage.

82-year-old grandma beats burglar who tried to break into her house at night


Willie Murphy, an 82 year old grandma, has revealed how she beat up an intruder who tried breaking into her house. Murphy says she was getting ready to go sleep at night when a man pulled up at her house and started knocking asking her to let him in because he was sick.  When the man's knocking started becoming more intense, the grandma called the police, but before the police could come, the man broke into the house only to get the beating of his life from Murphy, who is an award winning body builder that works out at the YMCA 5 times a week.

Two catholic priests jailed for sexually abusing deaf kids


Two Roman Catholic priests were each sentenced to more than 40 years in prison in Argentina for sexually abusing deaf children, a court in the western city of Mendoza ruled Monday, November 25th.  Argentine priest Horacio Corbacho was sentenced to 45 years in jail, while a 42-year sentence was imposed on Italian Nicola Corradi for the abuse of some 20 children at the Provolo Institute for deaf and hearing-impaired children between 2004 and 2016.   

Man kills his estranged wife and three children before taking his own life after she filed for a divorce


A man who allegedly shot dead his wife and three of their children had been stalking his estranged partner after she filed for divorce, it has been claimed. Authorities believe José Valdivia, 31, is believed to have murdered Sabrina Rosario, 29, and three of their four children - sons Enzie, 3; Zuriel, 5 and Zeth, 11 - before turning the gun on himself on Saturday in San Diego.
A fourth child, 9-year-old Ezekiel, was seriously injured and was in a critical condition as of Saturday evening after undergoing emergency surgery, family members said.

WHO evacuates nearly 50 staff from Ebola team in Congo due insecurity



The World Health Organization (WHO) has evacuated 49 non-essential staff among 120 working on the Ebola epidemic from the town of Beni in the Democratic Republic of Congo due to the worsening security situation, a spokesman said on Tuesday.
Two people were killed in clashes with police in eastern Congo on Monday after protesters in the town of Beni set fire to the mayor’s office and several U.N. buildings in anger at a new round of violence by suspected Islamist rebels. [L8N2853CZ]

Former president Barack Obama on Thursday (Nov 21) appealed to Democrats to "chill out" about their differences during the presidential nomination race and focus instead on beating President Donald Trump.
"There will be differences," he said, but they are minor compared with "the ultimate goal, which is to defeat a president and a party that has, I think, taken a sharp turn away from a lot of the core traditions and values and institutional commitments that built this country".

A royal source claims Prince Andrew’s trusted aide Amanda Thirsk was shown the door after her catastrophic decision to allow the Duke of York to appear on Newsnight.
