Cristiano Ronaldo has won a record 10th Portuguese Player of the Year award.
The Juventus forward collected his latest individual accolade at the annual Quinas de Ouro gala in Lisbon on Monday evening.
“This world is so fast, with the social media, the press, it's been wild,” Ronaldo said in his speech.
“It's been an extremely complicated year on a personal level. Don't let anyone pull you down.
“I can't help but mention that Sporting deserves a little prize. Next time.”

Remains of 250 sacrificed children found in Peru

Archeologists in Peru have uncovered the remains of around 250 children sacrificed by the pre-Columbian Chimú civilization. The remains are of children aged 4-12 years old, as well as 40 warriors, sacrificed between the 13th and 15th centuries, according to a video from Peruvian state media agency Andina.
The Chimú civilization inhabited northern Peru before they were conquered by the Inca. They built Chan Chan, the largest city in pre-Columbian South America.

S/Korea lawmaker grills nominee for not giving birth

A South Korean lawmaker provoked outrage Monday when he berated a female economics professor nominated as the country’s antitrust chief for not “fulfilling her duty to the nation” by having a child. Despite its economic advances, South Korean society remains highly patriarchal and is facing a demographic crisis with women increasingly reluctant to have babies for reasons ranging from the expense of child-rearing to career setbacks.

Disgraced Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir charged with illegal use of foreign funds

Ousted Sudanese President, Omar al-Bashir was formerly indicted by a Sudanese court on Saturday August 31, after being arraigned on charges which bordered on illegal acquisition and use of foreign funds.  Bashir admitted in court that he received $25 million from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as well as funds from other sources, but denied receiving or using the money for his own benefit.

Kevin Hart suffers major back injuries in car crash (photos)

Actor-comedian Kevin Hart and two others have been involved in a  car crash in Calabasas, California. This happened on Sunday. Hart and the driver, Jared Black, sustained "major back injuries" and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Black was driving Hart's 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, according to the report, when he lost control of the vehicle. It went off the road and rolled down an embankment.

Citizenship will no longer be automatic for children of some US military members living overseas

The Trump administration is making it more difficult for the children of some US service members and US government employees living abroad to automatically become US citizens, according to a policy alert released Wednesday by US Citizenship and Immigration Services.
The rule appears to primarily affect the children of naturalized US citizens serving in the armed forces who have not lived in the US for a required period of time, a relatively small number -- estimated to be approximately 100 annually, according to a Defense Department official.
It does not impact anyone born in the United States.

Category 5 Hurricane Dorian makes landfall in the Bahamas

The National Hurricane Center confirms that hurricane Dorian made landfall on Elbow Cay in the Bahamas' Abacos Islands at 12:40 p.m. ET today.  The storm is a Category 5 hurricane with 185 mph winds. "This is a life-threatening situation. Residents there should take immediate shelter. Do not venture into the eye if it passes over your location," the center said in an advisory.
 Dorian, which is crawling over the Northern Bahamas, is forecast to travel about 120 miles in the 36 hours between Sunday and Tuesday which means the hurricane is averaging about 3 mph.
 Hurricane Dorian has winds of 180 mph, making it the strongest hurricane in modern records for the Northern Bahamas.

India declares 1.9 million citizens 'illegal foreigners'

India has published the final version of a list which effectively strips about 1.9 million people in the north-eastern state of Assam of their citizenship.   The National Register of Citizens (NRC) is a list of people who can prove they came to the state by 24 March 1971, the day before neighbouring Bangladesh declared independence from Pakistan.

Woman breaks both legs after falling 80ft attempting extreme balcony yoga pose

A 23-year-old woman fell 80 feet while attempting an extreme yoga pose on the edge of her balcony. Alexa Terrazas slipped and landed on the driveway of her building. But miraculously the Mexican college student survived the fall from her sixth-floor apartment balcony in the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon.

Fears of an increased number of HIV/Aids hit Uganda as they run out of condoms

Fears of an increased number of HIV/Aids and other sexually transmitted diseases has hit Uganda after it was revealed in a report that the East African nation no longer have condoms available. During a recent report on NBS Morning Breeze, it was claimed that people can no longer get condoms easily as they only have 132 units available this year, instead of a supply of 240 units of condoms in a year.
Back in 2014, there was an outcry in Uganda as many men issued urgent calls for larger sizes of condoms because of their big sexual organs.

Tyler Perry shares inspirational post as his studio gets a highway sign

Tyler Perry got quite emotional after driving through the highway and seeing a highway sign leading to his studio.  The American filmmaker recounted coming to Atlanta with nothing, ending up homeless and also starving. Tyler however stated that he kept praying and believing that if he worked hard and did his best, everything would work out.

He wrote;

Driving into work today I saw these signs on the highways being changed. My eyes filled with water knowing what God has allowed to happen in my life.

Juventus is now third most-followed football club on Instagram after seeing a rise of 20 million followers following the arrival of former Real Madrid striker, Cristiano Ronaldo.  The Portuguese superstar joined the Italian club in 2018 when they were just on 10 million, but now they have witnessed a rapid increase including surpassing his former club, Manchester United.

Harvard student sues Uganda's President Museveni for blocking him on Twitter

A student at Harvard University filed a lawsuit against Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni for blocking him on Twitter. Hillary Sseguya, who is pursuing a master's degree in International Relations at the US based-institution said the blocking violated his right to access information about his country. Two public officials were also named in the suit.

Taylor Swift tops Forbes' list as the Highest-Paid Woman in Music (See full list)

Forbes's ranking of the world's highest-paid women for music for 2019 is out, and Taylor Swift secured the top spot.  The “Me!” singer takes the top spot on Forbes‘ list after earning a whopping $185 million pretax over the past year, which puts her ahead of runner-up Beyoncé and Rihanna.
 According to People, most of Swift’s earnings came from her Reputation stadium tour. Running from May to November 2018 worldwide, the tour grossed a U.S.-record $266 million, and was easily her most successful tour to date.

Former Liverpool striker, Dean Saunders jailed

Former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders has been jailed for 10 weeks. The Welshman pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a roadside breath test and failing to provide a breath sample for analysis at a police station. The 55-year-old, who was stopped on suspicion of drink driving by police in Boughton, Chester, on May 10, was sentenced on Wednesday.
Saunders, of The Paddocks, Whitegate, near Northwich, Cheshire, had initially denied both charges at an earlier hearing but indicated a change of plea to guilty on Tuesday.
He said he had been out at Chester Races and had drunk two pints. He will also be banned from driving for 30 months upon his release from prison and ordered to pay court costs of £620.

Nineteen-year-old Florida rapper, Lil Dell on the Run after being charged with murder

Nineteen-year-old Florida rapper, Lil Dell, is wanted for his alleged connection to a Memorial Day murder.
According to ABC 3, the rapper—whose real name is Cordellious Dyess—was a part of a group of teenagers who fired more than 40 shots into a large crowd at a parking lot near the Platinum Night Club in Pensacola, Florida, intending to hit a rival gang member. A stray bullet struck Elizabeth Harris, who would later die at a nearby hospital.

One person killed, nine others wounded during a knife attack at a subway in France

One person has been killed and nine others wounded during a knife attack at a subway stop near Lyon, France.  According to BFM TV, three victims were seriously wounded and a suspect has been taken into custody. The motive for the attack is not known.
 The assault occurred in Villeurbanne, a suburb of the southeastern city of Lyon, about 4:30 p.m on Saturday, August 31st.
Emergency services responded to an exit at the Laurent Bonnevay stop of the Lyon Metro. French authorities have made no official comment about the assault. In September, seven people were injured, including two British tourists, during an attack by a man wielding a knife and an iron bar in northeastern Paris, police said.

Mass shooting in Texas leaves 5 dead and 21 injured

Five people were killed and 21 others injured in a mass shooting in and around the cities of Odessa and Midland, Texas, on Saturday afternoon (August 31).   Police confirmed that the shooter, a white man in his mid-30s who opened fire, was shot and killed in a gunfight with police at the Cinergy movie theater in Odessa.

17-year old Jamaica sprinter, Briana fails drug test

Teenage Jamaican sprint sensation Briana Williams has tested positive for a banned substance. The 17-year-old double under-20 world champion, who is sixth fastest over 100m outdoors in the world this year, was found to have the diuretic Hydrochlorothiazide in her system during competition.

Williams, who is widely considered one of the most exciting up-and-coming track and field stars, reportedly tested positive for the substance at June's Jamaican championships, where she clocked 10.94secs.
