Woman calls cops to admit to drowning 2-year-old daughter

A California mother was arrested after she called police to tell them she had drowned her 2-year-old daughter and police arrived on scene to find the child’s lifeless body in a bathtub. Marcie Montelongo, 35 and from Gilroy, California, called the Gilroy Police Department around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday and said she had drowned her young child in a bathtub at her home. When police arrived, they found the lifeless toddler in a bathtub filled with water. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. Officers found Montelongo about a mile from her home where she again told authorities she had killed her daughter. She was arrested on suspicion of murder and held without bail, according to Fox 11 Los Angeles.

Iraq shuts down internet again as protests intensify

Internet access in the capital Baghdad and much of Iraq has been cut off, internet blockage observatory NetBlocks said late on Monday as the country experiences a wave of anti-government protests.
“At the time of writing, national connectivity has fallen below 19% of normal levels sending tens of millions of users offline across Baghdad, also impacting Basra, Karbala and other population centers. The new disruption is believed to be the most severe observed in Iraq to date,” NetBlocks said in a statement.
Iraqi authorities have previously blocked off internet access in the face of protests.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been named Arsenal’s new club captain after Granit Xhaka was stripped of the armband. Thousands of Iranian protesters have rallied today in Iran's capital, Tehran to celebrate the 40th anniversary since the US embassy was captured, overran and hijacked by Iranian students.  In a memorable moment that broke ties between both countries, on November 4, 1979, months after Iran's shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (backed by US) was toppled by Iranians, Iranian students overran the US embassy complex to demand Washington hand over the ruler after he was admitted to a hospital in the United States.

Woman who spent £14k on her body goes blind after getting her eyeballs tattooed

A tattoo addict went blind for three weeks after undergoing an agonising procedure to turn her eyes blue. Amber Luke, 24, from Central Coast, New South Wales, Australia, has spent £13,901 on transforming her looks, having her tongue split, earlobes stretched and other 'modifications'.
These include 200 tattoos, a boob job, lip and cheek fillers and ear spike implants, however getting her eyes tattooed was the most painful of them all.

Tunisia: TV Channel owner arrested for corruption

The owner of a Tunisian private television channel that has been critical of the government was arrested on Tuesday on allegations of corruption, the latest move in a government campaign against corruption launched this month. Sami Fehri is the owner of El Hiwar Ettounsi, a TV channel that has been critical of Prime Minister Youssef Chahed.

McDonald's fires its CEO, Steve Easterbrook, over relationship with an employee

McDonald’s fired its Chief Executive Officer, Steve Easterbrook on Sunday, November 3rd because he had a consensual relationship with an employee against company policy, losing the strategist who had pushed the world’s largest restaurant chain into delivery and online ordering.   The burger company’s board voted on Friday (November 1) to terminate Mr Easterbrook, 52, after investigating the relationship, according to a statement on Sunday.

Bayern Munich have sacked head coach Niko Kovac. The Croatian who led Die Roten to the German league and cup double last season was dismissed on Sunday, after meeting CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, president Uli Hoeness and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.
His departure comes just over 24 hours after Bayern were thrashed 5-1 by his former club, Eintracht Frankfurt, on Saturday.

A boat stuck on rocks above Niagara Falls for more than a century has been unmoored by high wind and heavy rains. Thursday's harsh weather pushed the vessel away from its rocky perch and closer to the falls on the Canadian side, according to the Niagara Parks Commission.
It's the first time it's moved any appreciable distance for more than a century, according to CNN affiliate CBC.

Seven people go missing after helicopter crash in South Korea

There's no sign of survivors after one helicopter crashed in South Korea with seven people on board.
 According to local media reports, seven people were on board the aircraft when it went down late Thursday near the disputed islets known as Dokdo in South Korea and Takeshima in Japan.
 Media reports citing fire officials said the helicopter had just picked up an injured sailor when it crashed shortly after taking off from Dokdo for still unknown reasons.
 The Yonhap news agency said that about 14 hours after the chopper went down, it had been spotted by rescue vessels. A salvage ship and a submarine were also sent to the site to aid in the recovery effort.

Airbnb bans 'party houses' following a California shooting that killed 5 people

Airbnb is cracking down on unauthorized house parties after five people were shot and killed at a Halloween party at an Airbnb rental house, the company's CEO announced Saturday,
The company is banning "party houses," CEO Brian Chesky announced Saturday on Twitter, in reference to Thursday evening's shooting.
The company will be "redoubling our efforts to combat unauthorized parties and get rid of abusive host and guest conduct, including conduct that leads to the terrible events we saw in Orinda," he wrote. The shooting took place in Orinda, California, a town east of Berkeley in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Artwork found in elderly French woman’s kitchen sells for $26M

An elderly French woman had no idea that a small painting in her kitchen was the work of a famed 13th-century Italian artist — but is now set to cash in on the discovery after the piece sold for a record-shattering $26.6 million.
An auctioneer had come to inspect furniture at the woman’s home in Compiegne, northern France, in June when she spotted the 10-by-8-inch piece on a wall between the kitchen and the dining room.
The auctioneer suggested the unidentified nonagenarian bring the piece into experts for an evaluation — where they were told it was a work by the celebrated artist Cimabue called “Christ Mocked.”
“You rarely see something of such quality,” the auctioneer, Philomène Wolf, told Le Parisie, according to the Washington Post. “I immediately thought it was a work of Italian primitivism. But I didn’t imagine it was a Cimabue.”

Girlmore Girls actor Brian Tarantina dead from apparent drug overdose

Gilmore Girls actor Brian Tarantina has died from an apparent drug overdose at 60. He was found dead early Saturday morning in his Manhattan apartment, police say.
According to TMZ, Brian's niece went to check on him at around midnight and discovered him unresponsive on the sofa. She told police that she'd last spoken to him on Tuesday night.
