Teenager 'kills her mum and lives with mummified corpse in bathtub for four months'

 
 

A teenager is accused of killing her mother and living with the rotting corpse for four months as neighbours noticed an "unbearable" smell but didn't raise the alarm. The 45-year-old mum's mummified body was discovered in a bathtub at a flat in l'Alcudia de Crespins in southern Spain after police were finally tipped off, local media reported. It is said the mother, named locally as Ana, was fatally stabbed in April while residents were confined in their homes during the country's coronavirus lockdown.
Her 19-year-old daughter, Teri, continued to live in the apartment like nothing had happened, it is alleged.

Mali: Detained President Keita may be deported, possible destination revealed

 

 The mutineers in Mali are discussing the deportation of detained President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.
The possible destination is Senegal.
“There are talks with Senegal on his (Keita’s) deportation”, a Malian military source told Sputnik.
On Tuesday, soldiers seized senior military and government officials.
Keita, Prime Minister Boubou Cisse, and others are in custody.
The mutiny leaders have established the National Committee for the Salvation of the People (NCSP).
The transitional body will be in charge of governance and work out modalities for elections.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is trying to restore constitutional order in the country.
ECOWAS leaders want the reinstatement of Keita as Mali President.

John Mikel Obi joins Championship side Stoke City (photos)

 

John Mikel Obi has joined Stoke City after reportedly signing a one-year deal with the Championship side. The ex-Nigerian international, 33, who became a free agent after leaving Turkish side Trabzonspor by mutual consent back in March, completed his move to the club on Monday afternoon.  After sealing the deal, Stoke boss Michael O'Neill said: "I was really impressed with him when we met for the first time and he outlined what he wants from the next phase of his career.''

Europa League Final: Prize money for Sevilla, Inter Milan revealed

 

UEFA will pay Sevilla and Inter Milan £3.84million (€4.5m) each for reaching this year’s Europa League final. Sevilla and Inter Milan will now battle it out in tonight’s Europa League final in Cologne, Germany. The La Liga side eliminated Manchester United from the Europa League semi-final last Sunday, while the Serie A giants knocked out Shakhtar Donetsk from the competition.
According to the Express UK, the club that lifts the trophy between Sevilla and Inter will also earn an additional £3.41m (€4m).

Parents face manslaughter charges after they forgot their son in a car and only remembered him by 3pm the next day

 

Two parents face manslaughter charges after they forgot their 3-year-old son in the car and went to bed only to remember the following day when it was too late. Dakota Fowler, 20, and Brandi Burks, 22, went to bed at midnight on Saturday, August 8, and forgot to get their son out of the car. They discovered him unresponsive in their vehicle 15 hours later, Franklin County police said.
 Bentley Fowler, 3, was declared dead in Hodges, Alabama, at about 4 pm on Sunday.
 The sheriff said he believed Bentley had died as a result of being left in a hot car, but a post-mortem at the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences will establish the cause of death.

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny 'poisoned'

 
 

Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny is unconscious in hospital with suspected poisoning, his spokeswoman has said. The anti-corruption campaigner fell ill during a flight and the plane made an emergency landing in Omsk, Kira Yarmysh said, adding that they suspected something had been mixed into his tea. A hospital source confirmed Mr Navalny was in a serious condition.
Mr Navalny, 44, is a staunch critic of President Vladimir Putin.
In June he described a vote on constitutional reforms as a "coup" and a "violation of the constitution". The reforms allow Mr Putin to serve another two terms in office.

Cuba Gooding Jr. accused of raping a woman twice in his New York City hotel room in 2013

 

Hollywood actor, Cuba Gooding Jr. is facing new sexual assault allegations in a new civil lawsuit.  The 52-year-old actor was accused of raping his alleged victim twice in 2013 inside of his New York City hotel room at the time, according to Variety.
 The lawsuit, filed publicly on Tuesday in Manhattan federal court, alleged that the Oscar-winning "Jerry Maguire" actor attacked the woman, identified in court papers as "Jane Doe" to protect her privacy, after she met him at a Greenwich Village VIP lounge.
 The unidentified woman claims the actor invited her up to his hotel room where he began to undress in front of her, Variety reported from a civil lawsuit.  The woman alleges the actor blocked the door, pushed her onto the bed, and raped her twice.

Paris Saint-Germain reportedly lining up a shock move for Odion Ighalo

 
 

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly lining up a shock move for Manchester United's on-loan star Odion Ighalo. The French giants have identified the 31-year-old Nigerian striker as a replacement for Edinson Cavani after the 33-year-old Uruguayan left the club folowing the end of his contract  last month.
 Ighalo on loan from Shanghai Shenhu recently extended his loan deal to stay at United until January, after scoring five times for the club.
 According to French publication, Foot Mercato, PSG have made contact with Ighalo's representatives about a possible transfer to replace Edinson Cavani despite splashing out £52million to sign Mauro Icardi on a permanent basis earlier this summer.

Bayern defeats PSG to win Champions League

 

 A second-half winner from Kingsley Coman proved the difference as Bayern Munich were crowned winners of the 2020 Champions League at PSG’s expense.
Following a tentative opening gambit from both sides, the first real chance fell to PSG and Neymar.
The Brazilian broke free down the left-hand side and fired a low shot that brought a fine save from Manuel Neuer with the inside of his outstretched leg. The ball rebounded back to Neymar, but his cut-back from an acute angle was once again repelled by the German stopper.
That close call appeared to spring Bayern Munich into action, with Robert Lewandowski coming within the width of the woodwork of opening the scoring.

"Barcelona re-signing Neymar is 'impossible' - Club president Josep Bartomeu says

 

 Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu has ruled out Neymar's return back to the La Liga club.
The Brazilian forward moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 in a £198million deal, but is being linked with a return to the Nou Camp with two bids already rejected by PSG in 2019.
Last week, there were reports that Barca could make another attempt to re-sign the 28-year-old following their's 8-2 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich. But Bartomeu has now insisted that it's impossible for the club to bring the Brazilian star back.
'Going for a player when the club he is in doesn’t want to sell him is impossible, Bartomeu told Barca TV.
'Last summer we tried. He is a player who, with the pandemic situation, his club does not put him in the market.
 'It is normal. The big clubs want great players.'
Earlier today, Barcelona appointed former Netherlands manager, Ronald Koeman as it's new manager following the sacking of Quique Satien.

The aim is to reduce the number of mosquitoes that carry diseases like dengue or the Zika virus.

One group condemned the plan as a public "Jurassic Park experiment".

TikTok removes 380,000 videos for violating hate speech policy

 
 

TikTok has removed more than 380,000 videos in the US for violating its hate speech policy so far this year, the short-form video app said Thursday. The app, owned by China’s ByteDance, also said it banned more than 1,300 accounts for posting hateful content.
TikTok said in a blog post that it had acted on content such as race-based harassment and that it also had a zero-tolerance policy on organized hate groups and on content that denied “violent tragedies” like the Holocaust or slavery.

COVID-19: Madagascar sacks Health Minister for seeking foreign help

 

 Madagascar has sacked its Minister of Health, Ahmad Ahmad as coronavirus spreads in the country.
This is coming a month after Ahmad had a problem with the President for seeking outside help for coronavirus.
Madagascar saw COVID-19 cases rise in July despite an official campaign to promote a controversial herbal drink touted as a remedy for the virus.
Minister Ahmad had written a letter to international agents asking for medical equipment after hospitals in the country raised concern about lack of beds.
The move angered President Andry Rajoelina who said the Minister had acted “without consulting” either the government or head of state.
His sack was announced on Thursday as President Rajoelina reshuffles his cabinet.
“Jean Louis Hanitrala Rakotovao has been named new health minister,” cabinet secretary Valery Ramonjavelo told a press conference, without giving details about the change.

Sweden records highest death tally in 150 years in first half of 2020

 

 Sweden recorded its highest death tally in 150 years for the first half of 2020, according to the country's official statistics office. Between January and June this year, 51,405 deaths were registered -- more than 6,500 fatalities (or 15%) over the same period in 2019.
This is the highest number of deaths in Sweden during the first half of the year since 1869, when the country was struck by famine and 55,431 people died.
he country also experienced the lowest population increase since 2005, with a surplus figure of 6,860 in 2020 that was less than half that of the previous year.
Immigration figures saw a reduction of 34.7% from the same period in 2019, with the figures primarily dropping in the second quarter between April and June.

Washington Football team appoints Jason Wright as its president, making him the first black team president in NFL history

 

 The Washington Football Team have made a historic announcement by naming former running back Jason Wright as its president, making him the first black team president in NFL history.
The team announced the hiring Monday on "Good Morning America."
 Wright, a former running back who had spells with the San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns, and Arizona Cardinals, will be  "responsible for leading the organization's business divisions, including operations, finance, sales, and marketing," according to a news release from the franchise.

Tiger Woods' son, Charlie wins Junior Golf Tournament with him by his side

 

 Tiger Woods' 11-year-old so has won a Junior Golf Tournament in Florida, with his dad by his side. 
Charlie who played at a US Kids Golf-sanctioned event at Hammock Creek Golf Club, easily dominated his opponents and topped the leaderboard.
 Yahoo Sports and U.S. Kids Golf's website reported that Charlie shot a three-under 33 across nine holes in the boys' 11-year-old division. He finished with no bogeys and three birdies. The proud father who was there to support his son, helped him carry his golf clubs through the course. 

Barcelona officially sack Quique Setien after Bayern Munich humiliation with Ronald Koeman set to replace him

 

 Barcelona have officially sacked manager Quique Setien in the wake of their humiliating 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.
 The club fired Setien following an emergency meeting on Monday morning, August 17,  after suffering one of the biggest defeats of their 120-year history and going trophyless for first time in 12 years
 A statement on Barcelona's official website read: 'This is the first decision within a wider restructuring of the first team which will be agreed between the current technical secretary and the new coach, who will be announced in the coming days.'
 The 61-year-old Spaniard who was only appointed in January before he was fired is expected to be replaced by Holland manager, Ronald Koeman.

 Sumner Redstone, one of the towering figure in media who built his father’s drive-in theater business into an empire that included Viacom, Paramount Pictures, CBS Corp and MTV is dead at the age of 97.
 National Amusements, the Redstone family’s private holding company that controls what is now ViacomCBS confirmed that the Boston native and veteran of the second world war died on Tuesday August 11.
 The media mogul whose legacy was tarnished in his final years by corporate battles and sordid allegations by former girlfriends, died at his home in Los Angeles.

Bolivia approves toxic bleach as Coronavirus treatment despite reports of people being hospitalised after taking it

 

 A bill legalizing a toxic bleach as a cure for Coronavirus treatment has been approved by the lower house of Bolivia’s legislature. According to local media reports, the country’s Legislative Assembly approved the bill, which had already passed the Bolivian Senate despite reports of people being hospitalised after taking it.
 The bill allows for the “production, commercialization, and supply of chlorine dioxide solution to prevent COVID-19 and as a treatment for sick patients.”Chlorine dioxide is an industrial bleach commonly used as a disinfectant, or to bleach paper products, which conspiracy theorists and alternative medicine advocates have hailed it as a miracle cure capable of curing any illness.

German pilot dies in hot air balloon crash

 

 The pilot of a hot air balloon has died and two passengers were severely injured after it crashed near the banks of the River Rhine in Germany, police said on Monday, August 17. The balloon was caught by a gust of wind as it came into land at about 8pm on Sunday near Urbar, south of Koblenz in western Germany, according to an initial investigation by local police.
 The balloon hit the ground several times, throwing four passengers out of the basket, before being dragged down a hill and getting caught in a tree, police said.
 The pilot, who was stuck in the basket, died from his injuries.
 The two injured are in a serious condition but out of danger, according to police, with all the passengers flown to local hospitals.
 More than 100 people assisted in the rescue operation.
