Democrat Joe Biden said he is “honored and humbled” by the projected results of the United States presidential election, which showed him above the threshold needed to clinch the White House.
The Associated Press (AP) on Saturday projected that Biden had 290 Electoral College votes, after the news agency called Pennsylvania and then Nevada in his favour.
“I am honored and humbled by the trust the American people have placed in me and in Vice President-elect [Kamala] Harris,” Biden, 77, said in a statement a few minutes after the projection was announced.

The average house, referred to locally as a villa, is now trading for less than it did during the darkest days of the global financial crisis and subsequent credit crunch, which hit Dubai the hardest in 2010-11. It’s also lower than at any point since oil prices crashed in 2015, according Property Monitor, which is powered by Cavendish Maxwell.
Thai Prime Minister, Prayuth Chan-ocha has dismissed calls from opposition parties to resignduring a special two-day session of parliament, saying he will 'not run away from problems' . Prayuth instead called for a two day session to discuss months of protests demanding his departure and reforms to the powerful monarchy.
“I will not run away from problems. I will not leave my duty by resigning at a time when the country has problems,” the former army ruler told the assembly on Tuesday October 27.
The two-day parliamentary session is expected to discuss an incident earlier this month when protesters flashed three-finger salutes – a symbol of the movement – as the royal motorcade with Queen Suthida drove past.
Two lesbian couples have become the first to take part in a mass military wedding in Taiwan, the only place in Asia to have legalised gay marriage. Taiwan's army holds mass weddings every year, but this was the first time same-sex couples have taken part in one.
One of the couples involved said she hoped it would inspire "more LGBT people in the military [to] stand up".
Some 4,000 couples have married since Taiwan legalised same-sex marriage last year.
"Our military is very open-minded," Chen Ying-xuan, an army lieutenant who married Lee Ying-ying, told news agency the Associated Press (AP).

After a three-year delay, the US has become the first nation in the world to formally withdraw from the Paris climate agreement. President Trump announced the move in June 2017, but UN regulations meant that his decision only takes effect today, the day after the US election.
The US could re-join it in future, should a president choose to do so.
The Paris deal was drafted in 2015 to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change.
It aims to keep the global temperature rise this century well below 2C above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5C.

More than 50,000 people across the US are currently in hospital with coronavirus - an increase of about 64% from early October.
Donald Trump and Joe Biden each claim to be ahead in the US presidential election, even as the final outcome hangs on a razor's edge and both sides gear up for legal action.
The Trump campaign is challenging vote counts in the key states of Wisconsin, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Michigan.
The BBC projects Mr Biden won Michigan. US media forecast he took Wisconsin. No result has yet emerged in Pennsylvania.

A North Dakota state legislative candidate who died of coronavirus last month won his election. Republican David Andahl, who was 55 when he died, and another GOP candidate, Dave Nehring, were elected to represent the 8th district in the state’s House of Representatives in Tuesday's election.
Andahl and fellow District 8 House candidate Nehring who both won the Republican's endorsements and voters’ nominations defeated one of North Dakota’s most powerful lawmakers, Rep. Jeff Delzer, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee.
Andahl won about 35% of the vote to win the seat.
Andahl died after being hospitalized with the illness for about four days, his mother, Pat Andahl, had told The Bismarck Times.
The mother said her son was “very careful” about the pandemic and eager to become an elected official in the country.
“He had a lot of feelings for his county … and wanting to make things better, and his heart was in farming. He wanted things better for farmers and the coal industry,” she said.
A High Court in Jinja, Uganda on Tuesday, October 27, sentenced a man to 50 years in prison for defiling and impregnating his 14-year-old biological daughter. Amuza Kamulya, from Jinja District, pleaded guilty after his daughter and his wife showed up in court to testify against him.
He had denied the offence and had threatened to kill his daughter if she dared show up in court to testify.
However, last month, he changed his mind and pleaded guilty after his daughter appeared in court following a warrant of arrest against her and her mother to testify in the trial.
While convicting Kamulya, Justice Margaret Mutonyi, described his actions as “monstrous and satanic.”

A mum has been accused of stripping her 12-year-old son and raping him on their bed before warning him not to tell anyone. Brittany Rouleau, 34, has been charged with aggravated sexual assault after her son told his now-guardian she attacked him in 2018.
The guardian alleged Roleau told the boy to strip naked as he sat on the bed they shared after he got out of the shower at their Witchita Falls home.
He then claims she asked the boy about masturbation as she was getting undressed before ordering him to take his clothes off and then raped him.
A powerful earthquake has struck off Turkey's Aegean coast and north of the Greek island of Samos, destroying homes and killing at least 22 people. The 7.0 magnitude tremor was centred off Turkey's Izmir province, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said. Turkey put the magnitude lower, at 6.6, saying 20 people had died and 786 were injured in the province of Izmir. On Samos, two teenagers were killed.
The shallow tremor triggered a mini-tsunami that flooded Izmir and Samos.
The authorities in Izmir, the provincial capital, are now setting up a tent area to house about 2,000 people overnight, amid fears that more buildings could collapse.

A grandfather accused of dropping his 18-month-old granddaughter from the 11th-story window of a cruise ship in Puerto Rico last year has pleaded guilty to negligent homicide. In July 2019, 18-month-old Chloe Wiegand reportedly slipped from her grandfather Salvatore “Sam” Anello’s grasp and fell around 115ft from the children’s play area on a Royal Caribbean Cruises’ ship, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Anello had been holding the little girl up to an open window on the 11th deck of the Freedom of the Seas ship when the incident happened.
Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu and his entire board of directors have resigned following increasing pressure from fans and his public fall-out with the club's striker, Lionel Messi. Bartomeu, who became president in 2014, was set to receive a vote of no confidence as fans tried to push for his removal.
