PSG 'reject the chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo after talks with agent Jorge Mendes'

 

 PSG have reportedly turned down the chance to sign Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo.
 Last month, Ronaldo informed new boss Erik ten Hag that he wants to quit Old Trafford this summer because he wants to compete for trophies.
PSG are one of the clubs armed with the power to bring Ronaldo in, but even a side with the financial might of the French giants would struggle to secure such a deal, according to ESPN - who claim the club rejected the opportunity after talks between president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the player's agent Jorge Mendes.

Baby diagnosed with Eyelash Trichomegaly after being born with lashes that extend to lips

 


 A photo of a baby born with lashes so long they extend to the infant's lips is going viral.
 The photo was shared on Instagram and it was revealed in the caption that the child was diagnosed with Eyelash Trichomegaly.
Eyelash Trichomegaly is a congenital condition in which the eyelashes are abnormally long.
 The condition can manifest at birth or later in life.
According to Instagram account, Medical Creations, Trichomegaly tends to have a benign course, but can lead to psychological disturbances and can result in corneal abrasions and visual disturbances, if trichiasis occurs.

Sri Lankan President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa has fled the country amid widespread protests over his handling of the country’s worst economic crisis since independence in 1948.
 Rajapaksa, his wife and two bodyguards flew on a Sri Lankan Air Force plane to Male, the capital of the Maldives, the Sri Lankan Air Force confirmed in a statement on Wednesday July 13.
“Under the provisions of the Constitution and on a request by the government, the Sri Lanka Air Force provided a plane early today to fly the president, his wife and two security officials to the Maldives,” the statement said.

Doctor arrested for r@ping pregnant woman while she was giving birth

 

 An anaesthetist has been arrested for allegedly raping a pregnant woman during a C-section and it is also believed he may have carried out attacks on two more mothers on the same day.
 Giovanni Quintella Bezerra, 32, was arrested on suspicion of rape after he was allegedly secretly filmed orally raping a woman after he heavily sedated her at the Hospital da Mulher in São João de Meriti, Rio de Janeiro.
The woman's husband was told to leave the room and only found out about what had happened to his wife when he recognised the doctor on television after his arrest.

Owner of South African bar where 21 teens died is arrested

 

 The owner of the bar in the South African coastal town of East London where 21 teenagers mysteriously died last month has been arrested, police in the Eastern Cape province said.
Provincial police said in a statement that the owner, aged 52, was arrested over the weekend, while two employees at the tavern were subsequently arrested on Tuesday.
Forensic teams are yet to reveal their conclusions on how the teens died, with a source close to the investigation saying one theory was a chemical or gas leak and authorities also investigating possible accidental poisoning.
The owner is now expected to appear before the East London Magistrates Court on August 19 to face charges after an investigation that focused on the alleged supply of alcohol to minors, the statement said.

 According to results of a research by Finance Football,Hans-Dieter Flick of Germany is the best paid, with an annual pay of €6.5 million, ahead of England’s manager Gareth Southgate, who earns about €5.8 million per year. France's Didier Deschamps is also amongst the best paid managers in the world, with earnings of €3.8 million annualy.

'Cheer' star Jerry Harris sentenced to 12 years in prison in child pornography case

 

 "Cheer" star Jeremiah "Jerry" Harris has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois Joseph D. Fitzpatrick.
"The sentence is 12 years in prison, to be followed by 8 years of court-supervised release," Fitzpatrick said to CNN in an email.
Harris, a former star of the Netflix reality docuseries "Cheer," pleaded guilty in February to one count each of receiving child pornography and engaging in sexual acts with a minor.
CNN has reached out to lawyers for Harris for comment.
In December 2020, Harris was charged with a seven-count indictment that was filed in U.S. District Court in northern Illinois.

Novak Djokovic wins seventh Wimbledon title, his 21st Grand Slam

 

Tennis star, Novak Djokovic defeated Nick Kyrgios during the men's singles final tennis match of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships on Sunday , July 10.
It was Djokovic's a seventh Wimbledon title and 21st Grand Slam. He won with a four-set triumph over Nick Kyrgios, whose challenge unravelled after a blistering start.
 Djokovic won 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7/3) to equal Pete Sampras’s mark of seven titles at the All England Club and move within one of the men’s record of eight held by Roger Federer. The 35-year-old Serb is now one Slam ahead of Federer in the all-time race and just one behind Rafael Nadal’s record of 22 majors.

George Floyd's killer Derek Chauvin bags additional 21-year sentence for violating rights

 

 Former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin has been sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for violating George Floyd's civil rights.
 Chauvin, 46, pleaded guilty to the separate federal civil rights charges in December.
 He is already serving a 22-year state prison sentence for the on-duty murder of Mr Floyd, a 46-year-old black man.
 The two sentences will run concurrently and Chauvin will now be moved to a federal prison.
 But he will almost certainly spend more time behind bars following the sentencing. His sentence is due to be followed by five years of supervised release.

Nigeria Kuje prison break: More than 400 missing from Abuja jail

 

More than 400 prisoners are missing following a raid on a prison in Nigeria's capital Abuja, officials say. Four inmates, a security guard and several attackers were killed after the prison was targeted on Tuesday night, according to officials.
Islamist militants have said they carried out the attack, and dozens of jihadists are thought to be on the run.
More than 5,000 inmates have escaped during prison breaks in Nigeria since 2020.
Loud explosions and gunfire were heard near the Kuje medium-security prison, just outside the capital, on Tuesday night when the attack happened.

Macau shuts popular shopping mall in race to contain COVID outbreak

 

 Macau shut down a popular shopping mall adjacent to MGM China’s casino resort on the city’s main peninsula after several COVID-19 infections were found, as authorities raced to the biggest outbreak yet in the world’s biggest gambling hub.
One Central shopping mall will be shut for one week, while more than a dozen other zones or buildings, have also been ordered to close, authorities said.
Macau locked down one of the city’s most famous hotels, the Grand Lisboa on Tuesday, with more 500 people inside.
Macau has reported more than 1 000 coronavirus cases since mid-June with more than 14 000 people in mandatory quarantine.

Man who shot rapper Nipsey Hussle convicted of first-degree murder

 

 Eric Holder Jr, the man who shot and killed Grammy-nominated rapper Nipsey Hussle, has been convicted of first-degree murder.
 Holder, 32, had also been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder because two bystanders were hit by gunfire. But the jury found him guilty of two counts of attempted voluntary manslaughter instead.
Hussle, born Ermias Asghedom, was fatally shot outside of his Los Angeles clothing store in March 2019. He was 33.

Australia seeks to expand fourth COVID-19 dose eligibility amid fresh Omicron threat

 

 Australia looks set to expand the rollout of the fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccines as it battles a steady rise in hospital admissions from the coronavirus fuelled by the highly transmissible new Omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5.
The new subvariants have now become the dominant coronavirus strains in several countries, with pandemic experts warning they could lead to more hospitalisations and deaths because they spread more quickly than other coronavirus variants.
Nearly 3 800 people are currently in hospitals in Australia suffering from COVID-19, the biggest count since early February, according to official data, when Australia endured its previous significant Omicron outbreak.

Raheem Sterling set to complete £55m switch from Man.City to Chelsea after agreeing personal terms

 


Raheem Sterling has agreed to personal terms with Chelsea after officially informing Manchester City he wants to leave the club. Sportsmail understands that the England international finalised the terms of a contract with Chelsea during talks alongside his lawyer.
Chelsea coach, Thomas Tuchel reportedly held positive talks with the 27-year-old England star before he made his decision to make the move.
Sterling is set to become the first marquee signing under Chelsea’s new ownership, spearheaded by chairman Todd Boehly, with the two clubs thrashing out a fee.

 Kanye 'Ye' West has been sued by fashion archivist David Casavant for not returning 13 of the 49 pieces of clothing he rented to him back in March 2020.
 The 31-year-old stylist, collector, and consultant is coming for the 45-year-old rapper-designer for $221K in unpaid rental fees and $195K to replace the missing 13 'rare, esteemed pieces' - according to TMZ.
Among the 49 items listed in David's invoice was a heavily-distressed vintage blue denim jacket designed by Helmut Lang.

Twenty people found dead in Libyan desert

 

 The bodies of 20 people who got lost in the Libyan desert have been found, according to rescuers, who presume the group died of thirst. The bodies were discovered by a truck driver travelling through the desert and were recovered on Tuesday about 320 kilometres (198 miles) southwest of Kufra and 120km (74 miles) from the border with Chad.
“The driver got lost … and we believe the group died in the desert about 14 days ago since the last call on a mobile phone there was on June 13,” Kufra ambulance chief Ibrahim Belhasan said by phone on Wednesday.
The sparsely populated region regularly sees summer temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit).

Blatter, Platini cleared of fraud in Swiss trial

 

 Former FIFA President Sepp Blatter and France footballing legend Michel Platini were both cleared of corruption charges by a Swiss court on Friday.
Blatter, who led FIFA for 17 years, was cleared of fraud by the Federal Criminal Court in the southern city of Bellinzona.
Platini, a former France national team captain and manager, was also acquitted of fraud.
The two, once among the most powerful figures in global soccer, had denied the charges against them. On Friday they joked and shook hands before the judgment and looked relieved as the verdict was read out.

Former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe dies after being shot

 

 Former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe is reported to have died following a shooting on Friday.
The 67-year-old politician was giving a campaign speech in the city of Nara when he was gunned down and was airlifted to hospital where he was said to be in critical condition after suffering several gunshot wounds.
However, subsequent reports emerged on Friday suggesting he'd lost his fight for life.
News of his death was reported by Japan's national broadcaster NHK. It comes after Abe’s wife, Akie Abe, is said to have arrived in Nara to be by his side.

Boris Johnson resigns after string of resignations

 


Boris Johnson resigned as leader of Britain's Conservative party, paving the way for the selection of a new prime minister after dozens of ministers quit his scandal-hit government.
"It is clearly the will of the parliamentary Conservative party that there should be a new leader of that party, and therefore a new prime minister," Johnson said outside 10 Downing Street.
Johnson, 58, announced that he would step down after a slew of resignations from his top team in protest at his leadership but would stay on as prime minister until a replacement is found.
