WHO ranks US as 3rd most depressed country in the world

The US is the third most depressed nation due to citizens overworking and over-medicating, an expert has claimed. New World Health Organisation (WHO) rankings show it is beaten only by India and China as the nation containing the most depressed people. Dr Lisa Palmer, a psychotherapist from the Renew Center in Florida, told RT that the US had a “mental health crisis”.
She said: “There is that pressure in America to achieve the ‘American dream’. People have a hard time with that – work life balance, peace, skillful thinking, skillful living, a sense of loneliness and isolation is very much prevalent.”

Actress Charmian Carr (who played the role of Liesl Von Trapp in The Sound Of Music) dies at 73

Charmian Carr, who played Liesl von Trapp in The Sound of Music, has died at the age of 73. The actor’s spokesman said she died on Saturday in Los Angeles, of complications from a rare form of dementia. Carr was best known for her role in the Rodgers and Hammerstein’s 1965 film, in which she performed the song Sixteen Going On Seventeen. She was a college student when she auditioned for the film, which also starred Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. She was 21 when she played the role of Liesl Von Trapp, the eldest daughter in the musical family. She wrote two books about her experiences, titled Forever Liesl and Letter to Liesl.

Father kills his 14-year-old daughter after sleeping with her and getting her pregnant

A father was arrested on a charge of murder after being accused of killing his daughter who was pregnant with his child, according to police in Nigeria. Ekiti police said that they have arrested the 50-year-old father identified as Williams, after being accused of strangling his 14-year-old daughter and burying her in a shallow grave. According to the police investigation, Williams was married and had four children with his wife. Several years ago, the woman left with three of her children, leaving the victim behind.
When the girl turned 14 years old, neighbors realized that she was pregnant. They immediately suspected her father of sleeping with her as she did not have a boyfriend.
When Williams was confronted, he denied the allegations. Williams then tried to poison the girl, but he failed several times. He then took her out on a field, where he strangled her. Williams then dig a shallow grave and buried the girl. Before Williams was able to flee from the scene, he was caught by neighbors.
Police believe that Williams killed his daughter to cover up the pregnancy.

7 and 10-year-old boy rape 1-year-old girl and kill her

Two young boys were arrested after being accused of raping a 1-year-old girl and killing her, according to police in Cameroon. Kumbe Bailando police said that the incident unfolded on Wednesday morning. The two boys, aged 7 and 10, abducted the 1-year-old girl from her home and dragged her into the woods. The two boys then took chances raping her.
After they were done, the two boys tried to flush the girl down a toilet. When that didn’t work, the boys grabbed a stick and beat her to death. The two suspects were arrested at the scene after the parents of the 1-year-old girl went looking for their daughter. During questioning, the boys confessed to the crime.

Single mother dresses up as man so she can attend a ‘father and son’ event at school

A mother went through great lengths to make her son happy. The single mother of Fort Worth, Texas, posted photos to Facebook, showing her dressed up in a baseball cap, plaid shirt and fake moustache. The mother soon became an Internet sensation after she explained that she did so to be at an event at her son’s school. Yevette Vasquez said that she took her 12-year-old son Elijah to school when she realized that there were more cars than usual. She asked her son what was going on. At first, he brushed it off, but when she insisted, he explained that the school was holding a special event called “Donuts with Dads,” where fathers come to spend time with their sons while eating donuts.

A father was arrested on a charge of murder after stabbing his young daughter in front of police officers because she did not want to live with her custodian any longer, according to police in North Carolina. The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office said that they have arrested 36-year-old Seth Pickering, after killing his daughter, 6-year-old Lila, near the Blue Ridge Parkway. According to the police investigation, Pickering split up with his wife Ashley, after which he had custody of his daughter. Pickering then lost temporary custody of his daughter, following a physical dispute he had with a woman. He was given supervised visitation.

Father beats child to death because he was jealous of the attention she got after surviving cancer

A New York father has pleaded guilty to killing his toddler daughter, who was an eye cancer survivor, with a wooden baseball bat before burning her body and dumping her remains in an upstate waterway. Ryan Lawrence, 25, pleaded guilty Thursday to first-degree murder in a plea deal with Onondaga County prosecutors. Lawrence admitted beating to death his 21-month-old daughter Maddox outside Syracuse in February. Authorities say he burned the girl's body in a fire pit, then tied the remains to a cinder block that he dumped in Onondaga Creek in Syracuse. The child's body was found by police divers about 36 hours after an Amber Alert was issued for the missing child.

Court finds Nick Gordon responsible for wrongful death of Bobbi Kristina

Nick Gordon has been found responsible for the death of his ex, Bobbi Kristina Brown after failing to show up for court on Friday. A hearing had been scheduled for 9:30am at Atlanta’s Fulton County Superior Court to hear motions pertaining to the wrongful death suit filed last August by the estate of Bobbi Kristina against Gordon and for a judgment to be entered in the case. Gordon, who had elected to represent himself in the trial, was not in attendance however, leading the judge to declare that all allegations made by Bobbi Kristina's estate in the case would be admitted through omission. A jury will now hear the case and decide on the damages owed by Gordon to the estate, who had been seeking $50million in their lawsuit.

Indian husband cuts off wife's nose over failed dowry payment

A distraught wife in India will be scarred for life after her husband of eight years allegedly cut off her nose because her family couldn’t afford a marriage dowry. Kamlesh Rathore, 25, from Shahjahanpur, in Uttar Pradesh, northern India, said her husband, Sanjeev Rathore, 27, had been demanding a dowry of Rs 50,000 (£550) ever since they got married. A dowry is part of Indian custom and is either cash, jewellery or land that the bride's family gives to the groom as a condition of any marriage.
Kamlesh said: ‘He harassed me every day for the dowry. He was constantly demanding Rs 50,000.
I repeatedly told him that my father is very poor and he cannot afford such an amount but he did not listen and used to threaten that he’ll chop off my nose. He has beaten me for years. He’s used belts, slippers, sticks and has always tortured me. He used to accuse me of working as a prostitute and threaten to sell me. He was always drunk. During our eight years of marriage he was very harsh with me,’ she said.

Ex mayor admits raping four-year-old girl but claims she initiated sex

A former mayor who “dedicated his life to Jesus” repeatedly sexually assaulted a four-year-old girl and blamed her for being a “willing participant”. Richard Keenan, who served as mayor of Hubbard, Ohio, between 2010 and 2011, has been indicted with eight counts of rape and 12 counts of attempted rape and gross sexual imposition. He pleaded not guilty last month, but prosecutors said he had admitted the assault to his wife, a pastor, a social worker and his brother and sister-in-law, as reported by the Youngstown Vindicator. The period of assault, he reportedly admitted, spanned a three-year period, starting when the girl was four years old. The child told his wife about the abuse and she confronted Keenan.

12-year-old singer and ukulele player Grace VanderWaal was named the season 11 winner of America’s Got Talent on Wednesday’s finale. The ukeleleist who's garnered millions of views online for each of her performances of original folksy tunes, won the million dollar prize and headlining show in Las Vegas. Upon hearing her name announced, she burst into tears. "How does it feel? These are tears of joy, right?" asked host Nick Cannon. "Yes, of course," she said between sobs.

Teen sues parents for posting 'embarrassing and intimate' baby photos of her on Facebook

A teenager is suing her parents for invasion of privacy because they posted pictures of her when she was a baby that include having her nappy changed and sitting on a potty. The 18-year-old woman, who lives in the Austrian state of Carinthia, claims that since 2009 her parents have made her life a misery by constantly posting new pictures of her on their social media accounts from when she was an infant.She said the pictures allegedly included embarrassing and intimate images from her childhood and added that they were shared with her parents' 700 online friends.
Michael Rami, the woman's lawyer, says that to date her parents have posted 500 images of her on social media sites without her consent. He believes she has a good chance of winning the court battle.

A brave teenager told how she was repeatedly drugged and raped by her own dad over two years of hell in which he referred to her as his "wife". Emma Burt, 19, revealed how her biological father Christopher Wayne Edwards, 40, indecently photographed her during the sickening tirade of abuse. Emma first went  to live with Edwards in December 2012, at the age of 15, after a row with her mum. Edwards abused Emma within a month of her moving in before attacking her daily after feeding her cannabis until she passed out. By the time she escaped, Emma was addicted to amphetamines and cocaine that her father supplied her with, and she claims he raped her every single day. In a sick twist Emma said Edwards used to even call her "his wife" before she escaped aged 17.

Man caught on CCTV poo-ing on supermarket floor then steals tissues and hand soap to clean himself up

A shameless thief has been caught poo-ing on a supermarket floor - before helping himself to tissues and liquid soap. CCTV tracked the man as he shakes pieces of poo from his shorts next to a freezer cabinet. He then ambles into another aisle before brazenly pulling down his shorts and pants after stealing some tissues to wipe himself - oblivious to whether anyone is watching. He then kicks the tissues under supermarket shelves and helps himself to some liquid soap to clean his hands. The weird incident was caught on CCTV cameras at a store in south-central Russia’s Tyumen Oblast region.

Boko Haram members have released a new video in which they say they plan to capture President Muhammadu  Buhari of Nigeria. The 12 minutes 58 seconds video was shared on Youtube. The narrator spoke in Hausa language and showed suspected terrorists doing their Eid prayers on Monday September 12th.
“This is our eid prayer from us and by the support of our leader Imam Abubakar Al-Shekau. We are extending our greetings to our people and fighters. Message to the infidels and the leader of the entire infidels (kafir) who is the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, that he should know we are very strong and doing very good. By the will of Allah under the leadership of our leader (Shekau) will capture Buhari with our hands,” the group said.
