Thailand: Three secondary school students rape 4-year-old girl in school toilet

A four year old girl was raped in a school toilet by three boys in Thailand.  There are suggestions that the boys may have been armed with a knife. The school was named as Ban Thung Krat School in Bang Lamung.

New Zealand minister sacked after physical alteration with press secretary

A government minister who allegedly had a physical altercation with a press secretary was fired by New Zealand premier Jacinda Ardern on Thursday (Sep 20), the second to leave under a cloud in as many weeks. The centre-left prime minister did not detail what Customs Minister Meka Whaitiri did during an incident last month, but said an internal government report into the matter convinced her the minister needed to go.
"Based on the context and conclusions of the report, I no longer have confidence in Meka Whaitiri as a minister at this time," she said.
Unconfirmed media reports said Whaitiri was accused of bullying after becoming involved in a physical altercation with a press secretary who had just started working for her.

Arsenal chief executive Gazidis to join AC Milan

Chief executive Ivan Gazidis will leave Arsenal on October 31 to take up a similar post at AC Milan, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday. Speculation that Gazidis -- who oversaw Unai Emery's appointment to replace Arsene Wenger in May and has also been behind a change in management structure at the Emirates Stadium -- will depart for Italy has been rife for some time.
Now the move has been confirmed, with Raul Sanllehi, currently head of football relations at the Emirates Stadium, to become head of football when Gazidis heads to Milan.
Arsenal's chief commercial officer Vinai Venkatesham will take over the role of managing director at the same point.

A British woman has reportedly been questioned by police on Tenerife after doctors found a dead tortoise inside her vagina. Staff at the A&E department of a medical centre in the south of the island are said to have called officers in after making the bizarre discovery.

South Africa legalises marijuana use

South Africa’s constitutional court has decriminalised the private use of marijuana. The ruling came after a provincial high court in 2017 held that the use of cannabis in private space should be allowed because laws against it were inconsistent with the country’s constitution. The state appealed to the constitutional court, which upheld the high court’s findings.

The US Department of Justice (DoJ) has criticised Harvard University over its admissions process, saying it uses "racial balancing" to select students. The DoJ has weighed in on a civil lawsuit challenging Harvard's use of race in the application process. Harvard is accused of discriminating against Asian-Americans, but the university denies the claim.

Coke to produce marijuana-infused drinks

Coca-Cola is said to be close to a deal that could see it infuse cans of soft drink with cannabis.  The US giant is said to be in 'serious' discussions with a cannabis producer as it looks to grab a slice of the burgeoning marijuana market. A deal with the firm, Aurora Cannabis, could lead to Coca-Cola selling drinks infused with marijuana, which is said to have health benefits such as easing inflammation, pain and cramping.

Iran: Collision between bus, fuel tanker kills 19

At least 19 people were killed when a bus and a fuel tanker collided in central Iran, state television reported on Tuesday. The collision, which occurred around 11:15 pm (18:45 GMT) on Monday, triggered a fireball that engulfed both the truck and the bus on the motorway between Kashan and Natanz, more than 200 kilometres (125 miles) south of the capital Tehran.

India approves ban on instant divorce

 In a landmark move, the Indian government Wednesday approved a ban on triple talaq, a prevalent practice of instant divorce common among the country's minority Muslims, by passing an executive order. The Indian Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave its nod to the ordinance making triple talaq an offence after the government failed to pass an amended legislation in Upper House of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) due to lack of support from some opposition parties.
"The Cabinet has passed the triple talaq ordinance. The Supreme Court has already banned the practice," Indian Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told the media in the national capital, hailing it as a major victory for Muslim women.
Indian President Ram Nath Kovind will now have to sign the executive order for making it effective, officials said.

Toyota launches Y20 to mark 20 years of Yaris

Toyota is paying tribute to the original Yaris by introducing a new Y20 grade to its 2019 model range, marking the 20th anniversary of its successful B segment car displayed for the first time at Paris Motor show in 1998. Through two decades and three generations, Yaris has become firmly established as Toyota's best-selling model in Europe, also being built here at its Valenciennes factory in France.
The revised Yaris range, revealed for the first time at the Paris Motor Show, will offer a new multimedia system that enables smartphone integration.

American singer, The Weeknd has been sued for at least $5million for alleged plagiarism.
According to TMZ, a Somali-American poet named Yasminah is suing the 28-year-old and the song's producers, Daft Punk, for 'at least $5million', claiming her song Hooyo is the blueprint for 'Starboy,'
The gossip site reported that the self-described 'activist' released her track in 2009, seven years before The Weeknd's chart-topper.
According to Yasminah,  both tracks feature the 'same hook, same key, similar tempo and both songs feature prominent claps on beats 2 and 4'.
The Weekend's 'Starboy' which was an instant hit after it was released has sold more than 6million copies in the US alone.

Washington State assistant athletic director, Jason Gesser, resigns following allegations of inappropriate sexual advances

39-year-old Washington State assistant athletic director, Jason Gesser, has resigned amid allegations of inappropriate sexual advances.    Gesser, was a quarterback for the Cougars from 1999-2002. He was placed on administrative leave on Monday after Alyssa Bodeau, 27, said she filed an official complaint against Gesser with the school’s Office for Equal Opportunity. He had been working in a fundraising capacity for the athletic department.

Nike sales appear to have increased in the wake of its controversial advertising campaign, using Colin Kaepernick as the face of the brand. Online sales grew by 31% in the bank holiday weekend after the ad launched, according to researcher Edison Trends. More than 9,000 US children are injured by infant walkers every year, study finds

Changes in safety standards led to a steep drop in the number of babies injured using infant walkers. Still, more than 9,000 US children are injured using the devices every year, according to a study published Monday in the journal Pediatrics.
Between 1990 and 2014 an estimated 230,676 children under 15 months old were treated for injuries related to infant walkers, according to a study published Monday in the journal Pediatrics.
More than 90% of incidents led to head and neck injuries and the most common cause of injury -- 74.1% -- was falling down stairs. Other causes of injury included falling out of the walker, and proximity-related injuries such as a child pulling or touching an object that they were able to reach when in the device.

Indian man murdered in front of pregnant wife in honour killing because he was from a lower caste

A husband has been brutally hacked to death with a machete in front of his pregnant wife in a suspected honour killing in India. Pranay Kumar, 24, was leaving a hospital with 23-year-old wife Amrutha Varshini in a village near the city of Hyderabad when he was attacked on September 14.
An unidentified man was filmed on CCTV walking up behind Pranay with a machete before hacking him across the back of the neck as Amrutha watches on. The desperate wife could be seen trying to stop the assault as Pranay slumps to the floor, but the man delivers another crushing blow to his head.

Old SA flag brandished at Bok rugby game in NZ

A flag from South Africa's apartheid era displayed at the game caused outrage on social media and was removed. Management of Wespac Stadium had not at first recognised the flag until the social media outrage by South African fans alerted them.
CEO Shane Harmon told Newshub that after some quick reference checking they were able to ascertain it was a pre-1994 flag. "We understand the flag is from the apartheid era and is offensive to many South Africans as a result, we asked the patrons to remove it."
He said the owner of the flag would face no repercussions.
The Boks went on to win the nail-biting game against the All Blacks 36-34.

Six more Ghana referees banned for life following bribery probe

The Referees' Association of Ghana (RAG) has handed life-time bans to six more referees in the wake of an investigation into bribery and also banned 47 match officials for 10 years each, while another 14 were exonerated.
