English social activist, Adam Bradford has condemned "the lack of government response" to the call from Nigerians to end SARS and he has revealed plans to fly a Nigerian to the UK.
 Bradford, who is a Queen's Young Leader Award winner, took to Twitter to make the announcement.
 He tweeted: "The lack of Government response in the #EndSARS situation is abominable. Therefore, I am going to fly 1 exceptional Nigerian youth to the UK, and we will show international diplomats how prosperous Nigerian youth are. I work in NG, I believe in you. Reply if it should be you."

Armenia and Azerbaijan agree to mutual ceasefire after fighting war for two weeks over disputed territory

 

 Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed to a limited ceasefire in their war as both nations battle for control of the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. The cease fire was agreed after Russia stepped in to broker peace talks between both countries  after two weeks of fighting.
 According to a statement by Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavrov after engaging in 10 hours of talks in Moscow that ended at 3am, the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to a humanitarian ceasefire beginning at 12 midday on Saturday to exchange the bodies of those killed and prisoners of war.
The two neighbouring countries last fought in 1994 over the territory leading to the death of 30,000 people.

Kim Jong-Un sheds tears as he claims North Korea is 'Coronavirus free'

 

 
North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un shed tears as he claimed the country is free of Coronavirus. The 36-year-old dictator made the claim while attending a parade in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Democratic Workers' Party of Korea in Pyongyang on Saturday, October 10.
 Kim wiped away tears while discussing North Korea's approach to dealing with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. He claimed North Korea had "zero" cases of the deadly virus.
 He said: "I wish good health to all the people around the world who are fighting the ills of the evil virus."

Tyson Fury's trilogy bout with Deontay Wilder is off, leaving door open for Anthony Joshua fight

 

The trilogy fight between WBC champion Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder has reportedly been called off, paving the way for the Gypsy King to now face Anthony Joshua in an all-British heavyweight unification fight. Fury was set to face Wilder for the third time on December 19 after winning the American's WBC heavyweight belt with a stunning TKO victory in February after their first fight ended in a draw last year.
 According to Daily Mail, the trilogy fight between the pair has been cancelled with Wilder's rematch clause now expired.
 The new development will now speed up preparations for Fury and Joshua, 30, to finally meet with a Wembley 2021 date on the cards for the biggest fight in British boxing history.
 Back in March, AJ's promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that his star and Fury had agreed to a 50-50 purse split for their mega-money fight.

Brazil surpasses 150,000 coronavirus deaths, health ministry says

 

 Brazil registered 559 additional coronavirus deaths over the last 24 hours and 26,749 new cases, the nation’s Health Ministry said on Saturday.
The South American country has now registered 5,082,637 total confirmed coronavirus cases and 150,198 total deaths.

Los Angeles Lakers win NBA Finals; LeBron James secures his fourth championship

 

 The Los Angeles Lakers have won the NBA Finals, defeating the Miami Heat 106 to 90 on Sunday, taking the series 4-2 and securing LeBron James' fourth championship. The win brings an end to a season that was left in doubt after the coronavirus pandemic threatened to upend it. But the show went on, with the league forming a "bubble" at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Florida, and continuing the season without fans.
James was crowned the Finals MVP for the fourth time in his career, becoming the first player in NBA history to win the award with three different teams. The 35-year-old "kid from Akron" logged a masterful 28-point game, along with 14 rebounds and 10 assists, but James didn't bring the title home himself.  In a bizarre turn of events straight out of Mr. Ripley’s personal files, comes this true story of a 92-year-old woman who delivered a child (albeit not a live baby) she had been carrying for over half a century.
Huang Yijun, aged 92, is from southern China and she recently made news after delivering a baby known as a lithopedion, aka ‘Stone Baby’.
Huang Yijun told the press she didn’t have the money to have her fetus removed after doctors told her it had died inside her in 1948. So she simply did nothing at all about it.

Texas grand jury indicts Netflix for allegedly promoting lewd material over the film 'Cuties'

 

 A grand jury in Texas has indicted Netflix over the French film "Cuties," which has become the target of intense online criticism since it began streaming on the platform in September.
A Tyler County grand jury on Tuesday charged the streaming platform for the "promotion of lewd visual material depicting a child," accusing the film of appealing "to the prurient interest in sex" and saying it has "no literary, artistic, political, or scientific value," according to a copy of the indictment obtained by CNN.

Derek Chauvin, the officer charged in George Floyd's death, has been released from prison

 

 Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer charged with murder in the death of George Floyd, has been released from prison after posting $1 million bond. The 44-year-old is charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd’s death after he was captured in a video with his knee on Floyd’s neck for over nine minutes
 Three other former MPD officers, Tou Thao, Thomas Lane, and J. Alexander Kueng are also charged with aiding and abetting in the death, which sparked off protests globally.

Thousands of abandoned chicks die at Madrid's airport

 

 About 23,000 baby chicks have died after being abandoned in transit at Madrid Barajas airport in Spain. The birds, who were only a few days old, had been left outside in cardboard boxes for three days without food or water, according to a press release from Spain's National Police published Wednesday.

Stolen Mao Zedong scroll 'worth millions' found cut in half

 

 A stolen calligraphy scroll said to be worth millions has been found in Hong Kong, after it was cut in half. Thieves had stolen the scroll by Chinese communist leader Mao Zedong from an art collector's home in a burglary last month. They then sold it at a fraction of its value. It was apparently cut up as the 2.8m-long (9ft) scroll was deemed too long to display, said Hong Kong police.
The original owner says the artwork's value has been "definitely affected".
The scroll contains stanzas of poetry handwritten by the founder of the People's Republic of China. Its owner has claimed it is estimated to be worth around $300m (£230m), though it is not known how the valuation was obtained.

IBM to split into two as it reinvents itself

 

 International Business Machines (IBM) has announced it will split into two public companies.
The move is an attempt to shift its focus to higher-margin businesses like cloud computing and artificial intelligence. A new company focusing on legacy IT infrastructure will be named and spun off next year.
IBM shares closed nearly 6% higher after the announcement.
It marks the latest shift by the world's first big computing firm to diversify away from its traditional businesses.
“We divested networking back in the 1990s, we divested PCs back in the 2000s, we divested semiconductors about five years ago because all of them didn’t necessarily play into the integrated value proposition,” Chief Executive Arvind Krishna said.
Mr Krishna was the key architect behind IBM’s $34bn (£26bn) acquisition of cloud company Red Hat last year.
Currently, Amazon Web Services and Microsoft dominate the market for cloud services.

Mesut Ozil has been left out of Arsenal’s 25-man squad for the Europa League group stages.
The club’s highest earning player - who pockets £350,000 ($454,000) a week - is one of two senior players who has been cut by boss Mikel Arteta, whose 25-man squad for the competition is only allowed to include 17 ‘non locally trained players’.
With 19 to choose from, however, Arteta has had to decide which two he would not involve - and Ozil, along with defender Sokratis, has been left out.

Coronavirus: Masks made mandatory outdoors across Italy

 

 Italy has made it mandatory to wear face masks in outdoor spaces across the country in an attempt to contain the spread of the coronavirus. Italians must also wear masks indoors everywhere except in private homes. Although Covid-19 cases are much lower in Italy than in many other European countries, there has been a steady rise in infections.
Meanwhile, Germany reported a spike in its infection rate to more than 4,000 daily cases.
Although this figure is lower than in many European countries, it is Germany's highest number of cases in 24 hours since April. Testing has increased, however, so more cases are being recorded.

Ten-month-old girl dies 'after being raped by her father' who Googled "how do I know if a baby is dead"

 

 A Pennsylvania father has been arrested for allegedly raping his 10-month-old daughter, who later died from the injuries she sustained. Austin Stevens, 29, of Providence Township, was charged this week with aggravated sexual assault, rape of a child, involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, endangering the welfare of a child and other criminal counts in the death of his baby daughter, Zara Scruggs.
 Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele says Zara was at her father’s house on Saturday evening where she was found unresponsive around 10:40 p.m., following a 911 call.

Australia to introduce English language test for foreign spouses seeking visas to join their partners from 2021

 

Foreign spouses of Australians will have to pass an English language test before they are allowed to stay in the country permanently from late 2021. Acting Immigration Minister Alan Tudge made the announcement on Thursday, October 8, while disclosing new details of the English language requirements for people applying for partner visas.
The test also applies to current permanent residents, who are not citizens of the country.
“We will require an applicant and a sponsor to have met functional level English or to have at least made reasonable efforts to learn English,” Tudge told national broadcaster ABC on Thursday.

Coronavirus: England U-19 match vs. Scotland abandoned after first-half positive test

 

 England's Under-19 match against Scotland at St George's Park on Thursday was abandoned during the first half because of coronavirus concerns, both teams said.
British media reported that a member of the backroom staff of one of the teams tested positive for COVID-19, prompting authorities to call off the game at the English FA's training complex near Burton Upon Trent.
"England under-19's match with Scotland at St George's Park this afternoon was abandoned in the first half as a precaution in line with COVID protocol," England said in a statement.
The Scottish team issued a similar statement and both sides said they would not comment further on the matter. England were leading 3-1 when the game was abandoned.
England's senior team have been training at St George's Park ahead of their friendly against Wales later on Thursday and UEFA Nations League matches against Belgium and Denmark.

The Lagos-born star dominated his opponent in the bout, earning a knockout victory, with the Brazilian bleeding after receiving a series of kicks and punches to his face.
‘The Last Stylebender’ earned a guaranteed $600,000 appearance fee and was also handed a $40,000 promotional fee, with an extra $50,000 performance incentive.

Lionel Messi lends his luxury £12m private jet to Argentina team-mates as they travel for international duty

 

Lionel Messi has extended his generous side to his Argentina team-mates by offering them his £12million private jet for the international break. Argentina will take on Bolivia and Ecuador in their first two 2022 World Cup qualifying matches on October 8 and October 13.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Messi has offered up his plane to Argentine stars currently playing in Europe to help them return safely to their country.
According to reports,  Paulo Dybala, Juan Foyth, Marcos Acuna, Lucas Ocampos, and Nicolas Otamendi joined Messi on his 16 seaters £12m Gulfstream V jet to Argentina.

World Record: Capital Gate beats Leaning Tower

 

Capital Gate, the Abu Dhabi office and hotel development set for completion by the end of 2010, has been certified as the World's Furthest Leaning Manmade Tower by Guinness World Records. The project, owned and developed in the UAE capital by Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC), has been built to lean 18 degrees westwards - more than four times that of the world famous Leaning Tower of Pisa.
It has earned the Guinness recognition after rigorous evaluation by the Awards committee since January 2010, when the exterior of the 160-metre, 35-storey tower was completed.
Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, ADNEC's chairman said: "Capital Gate is a landmark development for Abu Dhabi and with this recognition the tower takes its place among the world's great buildings. It is a signature building which speaks to the fore-sight of the emirate."
