Skinny jeans are definitely fashionable, but recent studies have shown that they pose quite a number  of unanticipated health effects. The difficulty of putting them on and off should be enough to put off most individual, but the common complaint of numbness going down one's thigh (meralgia paresthetica), heartburn, abdominal discomfort and nerve compression are a few side effects that should definitely discourage people from wearing skinny jeans.

The effects are not limited to women, as men are also competing with women in this fashion statement escapade. TENA Men conducted a recent survey of 2,000 British men and the results showed that one in ten men have had discomfort from wearing skinny jeans. Majority noted the discomfort the have in their groin and over a quarter of them had bladder trouble. The scariest observation was that one in five had a twisted testicle!
It is of note that some people also wear skinny jeans for other purposes aside fashion. Some are known to wear them in the hope of making them skinny. Dr. Nicholas Morrissey, a vascular surgeon with New York Presbyterian Hospital stated that "Clothing isn't designed to give us a shape that we don't have, and that's where people get into trouble". Putting pressure on the abdomen affects digestion which serves as a major concern for people with reflux esophagitis, heartburn and chronic heartburn
