A Muslim woman was suspended from her flight attendant job when she was accused of refusing to serve alcohol while on duty. Charee Stanley, who work for ExpressJet has since filed a discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission(EEOC) since the airline placed her on administrative leave, rather than allowing her to keep prompting other flight attendants on duty when customers ordered booze, the Muslim civil liberties and advocacy group said.“We have informed ExpressJet of its obligation under the law to reasonably accommodate Ms. Stanley's religious accommodation request regarding service of alcohol,” CAIR attorney Lena Masri  said in a statement. “Instead, ExpressJet has deliberately chosen to violate Ms. Stanley's constitutional rights.”
ExpressJet spokeswoman Kyla Ross declined to respond to Stanley’s complaint in a statement to the Daily News.
“At ExpressJet, we embrace and respect the values of all of our team members,” Ross said of the 8,500-employee company that operates over 1,500 flights per day for partner airlines.
“We are an equal opportunity employer with a long history of diversity in our workforce. As Ms. Stanley is an employee, we are not able to comment on her personnel matters.”
“Unless it would be an undue hardship on the employer's operation of its business, an employer must reasonably accommodate an employee's religious beliefs or practices,” according to the EEOC. The agency takes 180 days to review and investigate after an employee files a discrimination complaint.
