Horrified parrot plucks out all her feathers because of stress

A parrot is on the road to recovery after it arrived at a sanctuary smelling of stale cigarettes and without any feathers, having pulled them out through stress. The bird, which began its life as Hobby and is now called Javi, was saved by staff at the Tallgrass Parrot Sanctuary in Kansas, Texas. Staff explained that they made the change as the bird should never have been considered someone's 'hobby', which is what appears to have been the case.
Posting updates of the bird's progress to its Facebook page, the sanctuary stated that the parrot enjoyed her first ever bath and discovered fresh banana and apple. They also noted that the bird had a vet check-up to ensure that everything was in order as well as a nail trim.

After the 'stressful' visit to the vet, the parrot was given the opportunity to settle into the sanctuary and enjoy her new life. And since the earlier days of the bird looking, and more than likely feeling very poorly, she now has a lot of fun saying her name while bopping her head up and down. Staff wrote that she also loves getting her head scratched and that her voice, as well as her personality, is 'as sweet as sugar'. The final posting explained that the parrot has become more confident and that she is both 'full of personality and love'.

Plucking feathers is a disease of captivity and not a behaviour demonstrated by birds in the wild. Parrots will remove their feathers for a number of reasons however, including bacterial viruses of the skin as well as stress and anxiety.
