Sepp Blatter captured carrying wads of cash, the World Cup and a football (C)PA |
A 36ft-tall effigy of outgoing Fifa president Sepp Blatter will be burned at Edenbridge's annual bonfire celebrations this weekend. The figure, seen carrying wads of cash, the World Cup and a football, will be stuffed with oil-soaked newspapers, packed with fireworks and torched on Saturday. Sepp Blatter's effigy comes complete with wads of cash.
Edenbridge Bonfire Society has been poking fun at the famous and infamous for 20 years by building and exploding a huge effigy alongside their traditional figure of Guy Fawkes. But bonfire society members said Blatter was the overwhelming choice for this year's celebrity effigy. The scandal-hit Fifa president was a popular choice for the celebrity guy.
Society co-ordinator Charles Laver said: “Blatter was the obvious choice really. We did put some thought into who else it could be but he was in the news at the time the decision was made so we went for him.
Other names which had been in the frame were Russian president Vladimir Putin, Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
