Faith Dickey making it across the line in heels |
Thrill-seeker Faith Dickey, 26, from Austin, Texas, carried out the death-defying stunt during the Highgirls Brazil Festival in a pair of bright pink kitten heel shoes. At 840 metres above sea level surefooted daredevil Faith had only a slim cord attaching her to the line in case she tripped over her feet. Reginaldo Gomes, 34, from Brazil, snapped Faith as she crossed the Pedra da Gávea, one of the country's most famous highlines in Rio de Janeiro
Faith said: "I prepared by walking the line in my usual style - barefoot.
"I did this to check the tension and enjoy and easy walk before making it much harder by wearing high heels.
"It was my first time walking in Rio, and the view was beautiful.
"It is really spectacular to be above the entire city, the beach, and yet be so central while on a mountain. The exposure is breathtaking.
"This walk was much harder than the previous one due to the line being longer, and my high heels being too small. So the search for the perfect high heels continues."
Reginaldo said: "Everybody was so impressed by how Faith moved. She won the Brazilians over with her smile and how lightly she stepped over on the highline.
"I have never seen anything like it before – I've taken photos of highliners, but one wearing a pair of heels is completely different.
"Faith is very experienced at highlining, but even so she had to be extremely careful in her heels.
"She's practised using heels because as it takes a lot of skill to balance up there.
"On her first attempt, Faith didn't manage it. But as it got to late afternoon with the sun blazing down she made the crossing.
"It was an amazing moment, everybody was in awe of her and it felt like the entire festival had been waiting for something that special."
