Brazil defence troops prepares for potential ISIS attack at Rio Olympics

Pictures has emerged showing military forces in Brazil preparing for a potential terror attack on this summer’s Olympic Games. Nuclear, chemical, biological and radiological attacks were covered in the training sessions run by crack US troops. Members of the army and navy also had to help decontaminate potential victims as part of a simulation exercise. This year’s Games take place in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro throughout August. The scenes, which show the potentially terrifying attacks that could happen during the huge sporting event, took place in the Deodoro Sports Complex in Rio.

Brazil's Defence Minister Aldo Rebelo revealed 85,000 security guards, including 38,000 member of the armed forces, will be needed to help guarantee safety during the Games. The London Games only deployed half that number four years ago. Officials are terrified Rio 2016 could be vulnerable to assault rifle attacks similar to those that took place in Paris, Egypt, Mali and Tunisia by Islamic extremists. Speaking about security concerns, Mr Rebelo said: “Since the Olympics in Munich in 1972, that concern exists.”
Mr Rebelo also cited violence that took place in Brazil during the 2013 Confederation Cup, saying “have to be confronted and repressed if they happen”.
Preparation for the Games has also been hampered by worries over the Zika virus, a mosquito-based virus linked to a rare birth defect.
