Manchester United names stand after Sir Bobby Charlton as the legend is immortalized
Manchester United FC has honored Sir Bobby Charlton at Old Trafford renamed after a stand was named in his honor. The tribute for the Old Trafford south stand marked the 60th anniversary since Sir Bobby's debut for his beloved team. The 78-year-old still remains the club's record goal scorer more than 40 years after retiring from his playing days.
Charlton joined United as an apprentice in 1953 and went on to make 758 appearances, scoring a club record 249 goals. The South Stand is a particularly apt choice because it is the only part of the modern Old Trafford that contains part of the original 1910 stadium infrastructure. It is also where Charlton, who coined the phrase Theatre of Dreams, sits with the rest of the club's directors to watch United's home games.
