Fan stabs Japanese popstar dozens of times for rejecting his gift

Japanese pop star Mayu Tomita is in a coma after a fan stabbed her dozens of times because she reportedly refused his gift. Police found a three-inch folding knife at the scene in western Tokyo on Saturday. A bloodstained mask and a trail of blood were found on the stairs near where the star was due to give a concert later that evening. Tomohiro Iwazaki, 27, confessed to stabbing Tomita in the neck and chest. He claimed he “ambushed” the star because she returned a gift he sent her.
According to The Japan Times, Iwazaki told police:
“I lost my temper and stabbed her many times because she didn’t clearly answer.”
The man is thought to have sent the 20-year-old online a barrage of messages via Twitter and her blog. In the posts he claimed to have sent a watch to her between January and February – but it was returned in April.
He wrote: “I will never forget that I was looked down upon by you.”
But another message said:
“It’d would be radical to kill just because (someone was) rejected by a girl.”
Police now plan to re-arrest Iwazaki on suspicion of attempted murder, the Japan Times added.
