The French forward, already bestowed with the Golden Boot as the top scorer at Euro 2016, was named Player of the Tournament on Monday - one day after his side was upset 1-0 by Portugal in the competition's finale. Griezmann, 25, led Les Bleus with six goals in seven matches, at times single-handedly willing his side to victory. His two-goal showings against both Ireland and Germany will long be hallowed among the pantheon of all-time French performances, right alongside Michel Platini's record-breaking efforts at the 1984 European Championship.
UEFA chief technical officer Ioan Lupescu, who led the panel that selected the diminutive attacker for the award, outlined the decision by saying: "Antoine Griezmann was a threat in every game he played. He works hard for his team and possesses technique, vision and quality finishing.
