A mother is taking her teenage daughter to court because she started gender reassignment without her permission. Anmarie Calgaro is also suing the medics involved, saying her rights as the parent have been violated. Ms Calgaro referred to her 17-year-old child as her son throughout a media conference . She said: “Not only was I robbed of the opportunity to help my son make good decisions, but I also feel he was robbed of a key advocate in his life, his mother.”
The teen filed emancipation papers last year, but did terminate her mum’s parental rights.The documents state that the teen’s mum “made it known to him that she no longer wishes to have any contact with him” and that she “knows where he is and has made no attempts to bring him home”. The teenager claims her mother did not report her as a runaway even six months after she fled the house. Ms Calgaro said she was not opposed her child’s gender transition , but she wanted the child to “slow down”. The teenager turns 18 in July next year.
