Father breaks skull of 5-month-old daughter because she had an ‘evil eye’

A father was arrested on a charge of murder after allegedly killing his daughter because she had an evil eye, according to police in New York. The New York Police Department said that they have arrested 36-year-old Jorge Baque of Queens, after being accused of breaking his 5-month-old daughter's skull during a ritual to rid her of an evil eye. Baque has been charged with murder, assault and child endangerment. If convicted, he could get up to life in prison.
According to the criminal complaint, Jorge was angry that his daughter, Alaia Baque, cried whenever he was around her.
Jorge felt that his daughter is rejecting him and sought the advice of religious leader, who claimed that the child had an evil eye. On Saturday afternoon, Alaia’s mother called 911 to report that her daughter was unconscious following the ritual. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. A coroner ruled her death a homicide. Alaia suffered from 8 skull fractures. She had 4 wounds on her body and her eyes were bleeding as a result of shaking.
