Disturbing ‘eraser challenge’ causing children to self-harm until they bleed

The ‘game’, known as the ‘eraser challenge’, has been around for the past couple of years but has seen a surge in cases recently, according to the Mirror.
It involves children in school being encouraged to recite the alphabet while rubbing pencil erasers on their skin until it peels away and bleeds.
Essentially, whoever has the deeper wound or burn-like mark, ‘wins’. The kids are encouraged to post photographs of their wounded skin on social media and the person with the biggest wound is hailed the ‘winner’. Pictures have surfaced online showing bandages or plasters on the children’s wounds with the accompanying hashtag #regret.

Schools are now warnings parents to keep an eye out on their children’s social media pages, and to be aware if they start seeing the marks on their hands.
In 2015, a 13-year-old boy ended up in hospital after doing the challenged and contracting Toxic Shock Syndrome, which was believed to be caused by the germs on the dirty eraser.
