Trump accused China of allowing oil transfers to North Korea
The United State President, Donald Trump has told China that he’s very disappointed following a report that the country allowed oil to be shipped into North Korea. Mr Trump tweeted that China was “caught red-handed” and that there could never be a friendly solution to Korea’s crisis if oil should be allowed to be exported to Pyongyang. China earlier has denied that there had been any breaking of UN oil sanctions between the country and North Korea.
China’s capital city, Beijing last week supported a US-drafted resolution, which included measures to slash Korea’s petrol imports by up to 90%.
Although the new sanctions were measures to slash Pyongyang’s controversial ballistic missile tests. Trump’s latest reaction against China came after South’s newspaper Chosun llbo reported that Chinese tankers were secretly transferring oil at sea to North’s vessels.
“The illegal ship-to-ship transfers had been filmed by a United States spy satellites about 30 times since October,” South Korean official said.
The illegal trade reports have not been confirmed by US officials, but one state Department official quoted by Reuters assumed that such transfers might be taking place.
“Ship-to-ship transfers… remain a major concern to us, which is part of North Korea’s sanctions evasions activities,” says official.
China who is North Korea’s main trading partner, repeatedly said it has fully enforced all UN resolutions against Pyongyang.
However, when Chinese defence ministry spokesman, Ren Guoqiang, was questioned about the reports of ship-to-ship transfers, he said: “the situation you mentioned is absolutely not in existence.”
US state department spokesman, Michael Cavey reiterated calls that North Korea should be isolated from economic trading ties with other countries. We urge China to stop any form of trading with the DPRK (North Korea), including tourism and provision of any petroleum products or oil,” he added.
The UN Security Council on Thursday denied international port access to four more North Korean ships transporting banned goods, in another development. it would bring the total number of blocked ships to eight.
US, UN and the EU has already subjected North Korea to series of sanctions.
Meanwhile, the latest UN measures came in response to Pyongyang firing of a ballistic missile on November 28, which the US rated to be the highest.
In response to the sanction, North Korea described the UN measures as “an act of war.”
Trump has previously threatened to totally destroy North Korea if another nuclear attack is carried out. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un responded by describing US President as “mentally deranged.”
