Former Mississippi governor and Republican National Committee chairman gets arrested at airport after being caught with loaded gun

A former governor got into trouble for being in possession of a loaded gun at an airport, according to police in Mississippi. The Transportation Security Administration said that they called the police after Former Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, who was also once the Republican National Committee chairman, had a loaded gun. The incident unfolded at the Jackson–Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport on Tuesday. Barbour, 70, was going through a security checkpoint at the airport ahead of a scheduled flight to Washington DC.
Barbour is currently working as a lobbyist for K Street giant BGR Group.
As his briefcase was going through the X-ray machine, agents were alerted to a loaded gun. The gun was removed and 5 bullets were found in the chamber. Barbour told police that he simply forgot that he left the gun in his briefcase. He apologized and took full responsibility for the incident. He was fined nearly $4,000 for bringing a weapon into an airport. The gun was confiscated and the former governor was allowed on the flight to Washington DC.
Barbour said that the police acted very professional and he was treated just like anyone else in the same situation.
