Woman who was falsely declared dead and buried tried to break out of her coffin for 11 days before dying

The family members of a young woman was shocked to learn that she was accidentally buried alive for many days and tried to break out of her coffin, according to police in Brazil. Riachao das Neves police said that they have launched an investigation after 37-year-old Rosangela Almeida dos Santos was declared dead prematurely. The incident began late last month when Rosangela fainted several times. She was taken to the Hospital do Oeste in Barreiras, where she twice went into cardiac arrest. She eventually died of septic shock and a death certificate was issued.
The grieving family took possession of the body for burial. Rosangela was buried in the Senhora Santana cemetery. Her coffin was nailed shut and a stone tomb was placed on top of it. People living in the area of the cemetery began hearing strange noises. After 11 days, people pinpointed the noise as coming from Rosangela’s coffin. They alerted Rosangela’s family members who rushed to the scene. They broke the tombstone and removed the coffin.
The family members then opened the coffin and they realized that Rosangela’s body was still warm. She had wounds on her hands and head, indicating that she was attempting to break out of her coffin.
Rosangela was rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead.
Police are investigating the case to determine whether the doctors who treated Rosangela were negligent by declaring her dead prematurely.
