Ryan Seacrest endures an uncomfortable night as E! host as he's snubbed on the red carpet in wake of sexual harassment claims
E! host Ryan Seacrest was on the Oscars red carpet to cover the event, but he was shunned by many of the big stars following sexual harassment claims. The celebrity host, who is known to attract a host of celebrities whenever he hosts red carpet coverage, was left finding it hard to secure interviews with celebrities at the 90th Academy Awards as most of them snubbed him. But a defiant Seacrest plastered a smile on his face and kept at it.
In the first hour of coverage, Ryan secured just two interviews with lesser-known stars. His co-host, Guiliana Rancic, who was relegated down the street to the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, which is a 4-minute walk from the star-studded red carpet, was left filling dead air as Ryan struggled to land his usual stream of A-list interviews. All five of the Best Actress nominees avoided Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet. Only four of the 20 acting nominees spoke to him, and in total, only 22 people stopped to talk to Seacrest, during 18 separate interviews.
Empire actress, Taraji P Henson was one of those who stopped to talk to the E! host. But a lot of people feel she threw shade at Seacrest during her red carpet chat with him on Sunday - an accusation she has denied.
"The universe has a way of taking care of good people," an unsmiling Taraji said during the interview, before touching Seacrest's chin and adding: "You know what I mean?"
Seacrest obviously felt Taraji was offering her support because he replied earnestly: "I agree".
However, Twitter users insist Taraji's statement was not so innocent. Many on Twitter also pointed out that after talking to Seacrest, Taraji pointedly told ABC’s Wendi Mclendon-Covey, who had inquired as to her mood: "I’m great now that I’m in your company."
Speaking to People, Taraji denied this and said she "absolutely" offered him her support.
"I did it to keep his chin up. It's an awkward position to be in. He's been cleared but anyone can say anything," she said.
