Bizarre new trend sees people pay £800 for shoes made from sponge - and they're selling fast

LAST year he gave crocs a fashion makeover, and he also turned his attention to SPONGES. Designer Christopher Kane baffled fans at London Fashion Week in 2017 with stilettos decorated with what looks like kitchen sponges strapped to the top – and the trend is catching on. The eye-popping shoes have tiny strips of blue and yellow sponge decorating the toe and strap areas – and we don’t really know what to think.
And the squishy shoes don’t even come cheap, and will set you back a staggering £800, well above Christopher’s regular slingbacks being priced at £450.
The trend was first seen at his runway show last year, but they appear to have made their way off the catwalk too.

Samantha Cameron’s pal Tammy Kane, who is the sister of Christopher Kane and deputy creative director at the label, was pictured in a pair outside 10 Downing Street – and it hasn’t stopped there. The shoes are currently sold out, meaning numerous people put down a large sum of cash for the shoes that look like they could double up as washing-up scourers.
What a time to be alive. Thankfully for those desperate to get their feet in a pair, you can probably make your own using a sponge from your kitchen at home and a pair of heels. Just make sure it’s a clean one unless you want grease on your toes.
