Kenyan man who spent KSh 500,000 on son’s birthday now soliciting for financial help

Douglas Otieno Owila, a Kenyan man who stole the limelight in September 2016 after splashing KSh 500,000 (about $5,000) on his son's birthday is now in deep financial distress. According to reports, Owila was arrested and detained at Kodiago GK Prisons where he spent the night on Tuesday, March 19, after he failed to raise KSh 100,000 bond to secure release of a friend.
The politician had given his motorbike logbook as surety which he later on sold, prompting a Kisumu court to order his immediate arrest. His situation became worse when the accused person failed to show up for court sessions throughout the period in which the case went on.
By close of business on Wednesday, March 20, his family and friends had only raised KSh 70,000.
Recall his son’s birthday bash ran through three days and had the young boy entertained by traditional dancers while surrounded by heavy security men. During the event, the family opted for blue matching kitenge wear.
Now he needs KSh 30,000 more to secure his bail.
