The 62-year-old billionaire is the reigning monarch of Monaco and the son of Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly, who went on to become the Princess of Monaco. He is married to former South African swimmer, Charlene Wittstock, now Princess Charlene. In a statement on Thursday afternoon they said, "Prince Albert II of Monaco, who was tested earlier this week, is positive for Covid-19."
"His state of health is not a source of concern," the statement continued, adding that the prince is receiving treatment and self-quarantining at home.
"Prince Albert continues to work from the office of his private apartments; he is in permanent contact with the members of his cabinet, his government as well as with his closest collaborators."
The statement also urged the people of Monaco to respect the new regulations and containment measures to limit contact with others that were stipulated in a televised speech by Prince Albert on Tuesday. The
"Only rigorous observation of these containment rules will halt the spread of the coronavirus," the statement concluded, before promising to keep everyone updated on the prince's health.
