Over the weekend, as fans and music lovers gathered to pay their last respects to DMX, the sale of commemorative shirts honoring the Dark man was announced. The custom shirts — a collaboration between Kanye West’s Yeezy imprint and Balenciaga — have since raised $1 million, all of which will go to X’s family.
The $200 tops — which feature an image of the Yonkers native on the front, the words “in loving memory” on the back, and his birth and death date on the right and left sleeve respectively — appeared on the X’s Instagram page moments before his Celebration of Life memorial began on Saturday (April 24).
Swizz Beatz also promoted the sale of the custom shirts to his followers while thanking West for the amazing tribute. “Thank you my brother KANYE & Balenciaga for this amazing tribute. Link in BIO. Long live the dog,” he wrote.
DMX fans hopped on the tribute site, made their purchases and the custom tees sold out in less than 24 hours, earning roughly $1 million, per TMZ.
As previously reported by REVOLT, Swizz sought out West’s participation in DMX’s memorial services. In addition to the designing the tribute shirts, the Chicago rapper and his Sunday Service choir showed up for X and performed beautiful melodies throughout the late emcee’s Celebration of Life service. West was also one of the event’s producers, and he was responsible for the stage setup inside of the Barclays Center, all of which Swizz expressed his gratitude for during the event.
