California hit by swarm of earthquakes: Tremors recorded near San Francisco


Three small earthquakes were recorded in Danville, about 48km from San Francisco on Sunday before another one being recorded this morning. On Sunday a 3.0 magnitude earthqauke recorded at 10:34am local time (6:34pm GMT). Four minutes later a 2.7 magnitude earthquake was recorded and then a third one occured five hours later. This mornning at 3:55am local time (11:55am GMT) the US Geological Survery reported a 3.3 magnitidue earthquake in Alamo, which is about 45km from San Francisco.
Residents tweeted that Danville was "shaking like crazy" after the series of tremors. There have been no reports of injuries or damages. The US Geological Survery continued to record smaller tremors.
Seismologist Anne Marie Baltay said small tremors do not indicate that a larger quake was coming after more thant 55 small quakes were recorded in February.
She said: "We don’t expect this to grow into anything really large.
”This swarm is very typical of what we see in this region.
"It’s happened seven times in this area since 1970."
Local residents tweeted how they felt the series of earthquakes over the weekend.
