Teacher forces students to drown raccoons for eating chicken they were raising on school property

Parents are furious that a teacher subjected children to horrific animal abuse. Police were called to the Forest High School in Florida after students disobeyed their teacher and took photos and videos of the animal abuse. According to one mother whose son witnessed the incident, two raccoons were accused of eating a chicken, which a class had been raising. As revenge, the teacher, Dewie Brewton, ordered the students to trap the animals in cages.
During agriculture class, the teacher filled a large garbage bin with water and ordered the students to drown the animals. According to the mother, in addition to the raccoons, one opossum was also drowned “just for sports.”
Before carrying out the acts, the teacher warned the students of consequences if anyone recorded the acts. However, students did do so and uploaded the videos to the Internet where it went viral and caused an uproar. Police investigated as to whether the teacher committed a crime by asking the students to kill the animals, but so far, he was cleared of wrongdoing.
Marion County Public Schools officials said: “while law enforcement tells us the teacher did not do anything illegal, his actions before students are certainly questionable.”
School officials have placed the teacher on paid leave until they complete their investigation. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced that it will also investigate the animal abuse.
