Researchers in in Guangxi Province in southern China have discovered a new species of land snail that measures a mere 0.86 mm in shell height. The species, called angustopila dominikae, is so small that 10 of the snails can fit into the eye of a needle, according to The Guardian.
The scientists who made the discovery, Barna Páll-Gergely and Takahiro Asami from Shinshu University; Adrienne Jochum of the University and Natural History Museum of Bern; andAndrás Hunyadi, discovered seven new snail species in all, according to a paper in the journal Zookeys.

James Gray was a passenger on a KLM flight from Edinburgh to Amsterdam, when he tried to open a jet exit, 30,000 feet. He reportedly claims he merely touched the handle while temporarily confused but the crew dealt with the situation firmly, ordering him to his seat and informing him he would be arrested upon landing at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport.

Jonathan Hogg, a barrister in London is contemplating legal action against Qatar Airways after claims he was bitten by a deadly spider on a flight, leaving him with months of recovery.
“I was struggling to get comfortable during the journey and crossed my legs to get into a better position when I felt a small, sharp pain radiating in my left leg,” he told The Guardian.
The venomous spider bite burst his leg open, forcing doctors to cut a part of his leg off. He continues to receive treatment for the near-fatal attack and said he may need another operation.

Four teenage boys from have been accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl at a drunken party, then sharing vile images online. Police said that the victim suffered internal injuries and is still psychologically traumatized following the alleged attack.
The teenagers are accused of raping the girl with foreign objects after stripping her naked. They are also accused of forcing her to drink a powerful vodka-based drink before carrying out the attack.

Hundreds of thousands of honeybees were suddenly set loose on an Oklahoma interstate Tuesday after a truck hauling the insects overturned. The accident on southbound Interstate 35 in Garvin County, south of Oklahoma City, was first reported to authorities at around 1 p.m. local time. KOKH-TV reported that dozens of crates containing thousands of bees were scattered along the nearby exit ramp.

Jennifer Berry, 33, is expected to face murder charges after throwing her new born baby from a 7th floor window of an high rise building in the Bronx, New York. The infant was reported to be alive with her umbilical cord still attached when she was thrown by the mother but died from blunt force trauma, the police said.
The 33-year-old, who reportedly denied being pregnant, allegedly told police she gave birth in the shower of her apartment. She claimed the baby wasn't breathing so she threw the baby and the placenta out of the window, the Daily News reported.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, in University Heights, at 2.37pm but the baby was pronounced dead minutes later.
The tragic newborn was discovered by the building super's wife. Berry was taken into custody following the incident.
Kenneth Bolton, 29, who was visiting relatives at the building, told the Daily News: "She was deranged like she was lost, you know when someone has a look in their eyes like they don't know where they are?
"The devil was in her eyes, it was more like not human"

Volkswagen's top-of-the-range automaker Audi today admitted that 2.1million of its diesel cars worldwide are fitted with the sophisticated software enabling them to cheat emission tests. Some 1.42 million Audi vehicles with so-called EU5 engines are affected in Western Europe, with 577,000 in Germany and almost 13,000 in the United States, an Audi spokesman said. Affected model lines include the A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, TT, Q3 and Q5.

At least 38 people have been killed, including eight children, and dozens more injured as a result of a suspected coalition airstrike at a wedding hall in southwest Yemen. The airstrike struck the wedding hall in the village of al-Wahijah, according to Yemeni security officials. Along with the bodies of the dead, the injured were taken to the nearby port city of Mokha, which is reportedly controlled by Houthi rebels. Speaking to the Associated Press, a senior government official described the airstrike as a "mistake".
The Arab coalition, which has been carrying out airstrikes against Houthi fighters since March, has not commented on Monday's incident.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday in New York said China has intercepted shiploads of crude oil stolen from Nigeria. A statement by the Special Adviser to the President, Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said the intercepted shiploads of crude oil were to be sold and proceeds paid into private accounts.
Buhari spoke at a meeting with President Xi Jinping of China on the sidelines of the 70th United Nations General Assembly. Buhari also used the occasion to restate his determination to fully sanitise Nigeria’s oil industry and make it totally free of corruption and shady deals.

A male motorist got more than he bargained for when he stopped at a Michigan gas station earlier this week and started a fire when he tried to kill a spider with a cigarette lighter. Surveillance video from the Mobil gas station in Center Line shows flames quickly engulfing the man’s car and the gas pump. The dopey motorist put out the flames with a fire extinguisher. He told authorities he spotted a spider on his gas tank and pulled out his lighter to get rid of it, the station said. He claimed to be deathly afraid of spiders.
“He didn’t have a cigarette. He didn’t have anything on him. All of a sudden I look out and I see flames,” employee Susan Adams told Fox 2.
Calmly, Adams hit the gas automatic stop button and quickly called the Center Line Fire Department. The fire destroyed the gas pump. The motorist’s vehicle suffered little damage.
His stupidity didn’t stop him from returning the next day for another fill up.

Thousands evacuated as ‘super typhoon’ nears Taiwan

Taiwan has evacuated thousands of residents and tourists as "super typhoon" Dujuan headed towards the island, gathering strength on its approach to the east coast. Torrential rains and high winds are forecast across Taiwan from Monday afternoon, with landfall predicted around 15:00 GMT.
Almost 3,000 people, most of them tourists, were evacuated on Sunday from Taiwan's Green Island and Orchid Island - popular with visitors. About 4,000 more were moved on Monday in advance of the storm.
Eric Chu, New Taipei mayor, said the people were from vulnerable areas, including the hot spring town of Wulai, just outside Taipei.

A new species of venomous snake belonging to the family Acanthophis (Australian death adders), a genus of highly venomous snakes have been discovered in Australia. Named the Kimberley death adder (Acanthophis cryptamydros), the snake is roughly 24 inches (60 cm) long and has a diamond-shaped head. It is a ‘sit-and-wait’ predator, staying camouflaged until it can ambush any passing frogs, lizards or small mammals.

France launches first air strikes against ISIL in Syria after President’s announcements

France has carried out its first air strikes in Syria against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group. The announcement from President Francois Hollande's office on Sunday came after a year of hesitation. Hollande had resisted the raids in Syria, saying he did not want to strengthen Syria's President Bashar al-Assad, who is the target of ISIL fighters.

Jaxon Strong defies doctors by reaching first birthday

Tiny Jaxon Strong, born with an extreme brain malformation has amazed doctors by reaching his first birthday. It is reported that he continues to defy doctors and show improvements daily.
Jaxon was born last August with Microhydranencephaly, an uncurable malformation of the brain. His proud parents Brittany and Brandon are now sharing their story in order to show others that the condition will not define Jaxon's life.

Sarah Candy, 36 has been jailed for her sexual involvement with a teenage pupil after she was secretly filmed by her husband. The Mirror reports that Candy was caught “kissing and cuddling" the youngster on her marital bed after husband James, 41, set up a hidden camera.
A court heard just a week earlier Candy had told her husband of 19 years she wanted to leave him in March. But he soon became suspicious about her regular contact with a teenage boy at the school where she taught. Candy was rumbled after James turned detective and filmed footage of her with the pupil after leaving his phone on record in their bedroom.
The devastated husband passed the footage on to the police and his wife was charged with sexual activity with a boy aged under 16. Candy, of Corby, Northants., pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and was jailed for 12 months on Thursday. Sentencing her, Judge Lynn Tayton QC said there was a "clear sexual element" to the contact between the teaching assistant and the boy.

Switzerland bans the sales of Volkswagen car models

Switzerland has banned sales of Volkswagen Group car models which may have been outfitted with devices designed to tricking emission tests. The ban, announced on Friday, is on all cars with diesel engines in the Euro 5 emissions category, including VW, Seat, Skoda and other brands in the VW group.
Thomas Rohrbach, spokesman for the Swiss federal office of roadways, said the move could potentially affect 180,000 vehicles that have 1.2-litre, 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre diesel engines. But the ban does not include the cars that are already in circulation.

Claire Shepherd, 27, was left outraged after her offer of a role as a retailer merchandiser with shopping company Dee Set was cancelled because of her intricate tattoo. Apparently, Shepherd was employed after passing a phone interview but after receiving an email about the company's dress policy, Claire realised they included a note which said tattoos should be covered up.
Claire, from Swansea, replied explaining she had an intricate tattoo covering her hand in the hope the company would understand. But barely half an hour after being offered a position, she found her services were no longer required.

After months of probes following raids in Zurich which led to the indictment of more than a dozen top officials, Swiss investigators said their attention had now turned to actions carried out by Blatter and Platini.

Dozens of mourners gathered in Nairobi on Sunday at the start of second anniversary commemorations of the Westgate shopping mall attack by militants from Somalia’s Al-Qaeda-affiliated Shebab. In Nairobi’s Karura forest, a small group of people, many of them survivors or bereaved families, held inter-faith prayers at a site where a memorial stone and a plaque bearing the names of the dead, as well as newly planted trees, was unveiled a year ago.
The attack began on September 21, 2013, when four gunmen entered the mall, spraying shoppers and staff with machine gun fire and tossing grenades into crowds of Saturday shoppers and diners. The attack left 67 dead.

Health ministry bans skin whitening creams in Ivory Coast

The Ivorian health ministry has banned widely used skin whitening creams because of fears they cause a lasting damage to health. A statement released by the ministry says, “Cosmetic lightening and hygiene creams... that de-pigment the skin... are now forbidden," Times Alive reports.
The ban affects whitening creams and lotions containing mercury and its derivatives, cortisone, vitamin A or more than two percent hydroquinine, a lightening agent that is used to develop photographs.

Millions of people were reported to have died between 1940 and 1945 at Auschwitz

German prosecutors have charged a 91-year-old woman with playing a role in the deaths of 260,000 Jews at the infamous Auschwitz death camp. The unidentified woman, who authorities say served as member of the Nazi SS is accused of serving as a radio operator for the camp commandant from April to July 1944, The Times of Isreal reports. During that time, huge numbers of Hungarian Jews were murdered in gas chambers.

Past studies have suggested children have higher IQ if they are breastfed but a recent research which studied more than 11,000 children born from 1994 and 1996 have shown otherwise. The sample group’s intelligence were tested at ages 2,3,4,7,9,10,12,14,16 and there was no difference between those who were breastfed and those bottle fed.
Scientists at Goldsmith's University in London argue there is no substantial link between breastfeeding and early life intelligence. However, experts concluded long-term factors such as family background had a much bigger impact on children's IQs.

Shadi Petosky was said to be returning from a vacation in Orlando, Fl. when she was stopped at the airport, and then detained by Transportation Security Administration agents because of an "anomaly" in her image on an X-ray security scanner, the CBS News reports. Petosky who is transgender described through her Twitter account how TSA agents took her aside to a private room where they asked her about her genitals.
After waiting alone in the private room, Petosky says that a TSA agent named "Bramlet" entered the room and asked her to return to the scanning machine "as a man or it would be a problem." The scanner currently used in U.S. airports doesn't show details on a person's body, it only highlights possible dangers.

Claire Henderson gave this warning on her Facebook page after her baby girl, Brooke, after her baby was hospitalised and almost killed by cold sore virus. She reported that the sores started appearing on her face, in the back of her throat and on her lips.
She said a friend who knew about the potential dangers told her to take her to hospital immediately. Ms Henderson, from Doncaster, said: "I know this sounds like I am scaremongering but if my friend had not told me about this my baby girl could have been very seriously ill.

Latori Barman was reported to have fallen down a pothole in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India, and was buried alive by construction workers, Opposing Views report. The workers poured molten tar over the hole that Barman fell into, and leveled the tar with a truck. However, Barman's arm and/or clothing was discovered sticking out of the road by local residents who later blocked the street after the body was exhumed.

A Dominos in Berkeley, California was reported to have accidentally delivered $1,300 in a take away Dominos box marked “chicken wings”, to a customer in San Francisco. Mike Vegas, a bartender at AT&T Park told NBC Bay Area he thought he was going to have the night off so he ordered some pizza and wings. But when he got called into work, he stuck the box of wings in the fridge unopened.
"I got off work really late, and when I came back home I found the cash in the delivery box, a refrigerated deposit” Vegas told the station. "I was rubbing my eyes at 5 a.m., laughing at myself."

At least 717 people have been killed in a stampede at the annual Hajj pilgrimage, Saudi Arabia's civil defense directorate said, as the death toll continued to rise. The directorate said at least 863 other pilgrims were injured in Thursday's stampede, which took place in Mina, on the outskirts of the holy city of Mecca.
The injured have been evacuated to four different hospitals in the Mina region, according to a civil defense spokesman. Mina is where pilgrims carry out a symbolic stoning of the devil by throwing pebbles against three stone walls. It also houses more than 160,000 tents where pilgrims spend the night during the pilgrimage.

Volkswagen chief executive Martin Winterkorn has resigned following the revelation that the firm manipulated US diesel car emissions tests.
Mr Winterkorn he was "shocked" by recent events and that the firm needed a "fresh start".
He added that he was "not not aware of any wrong doing on my part" but was acting in the interest of the company.

Mozambican authorities have blamed ‘human error’ after 24-still-born babies from a hospital in Matola were dumped at a waste site, AIM news agency reported. The mayor of the city of Matola said the remains of babies born at Maputo Provincial Hospital were mistaken for refuse by an employee and transported to a dumping site outside the city.
The hospital mortuary administrator Carolina Macuacua told the news agency, “What happened was that a colleague put the bodies of the stillbirths in the vehicle carrying ordinary hospital waste”.
The mayor, Calisto Cossa has since issued an apology for the negligence and said, “We know this was a human error, and for that reason, we present our apology not only to the citizens of Matola, but also to the Mozambican society”.
The UN children's agency Unicef lists Mozambique as among the sub-Saharan countries with a high stillbirth rate.

Arsene and Annie Wenger are separated and are set to be divorced. The Arsenal manager and his long-term partner Annie had a 'separation of bodies' judgment issued by a judge in Paris, meaning that they are free to see other people. The Wengers had been in a long-term relationship since the mid-1990s, and married each other in 2010. They also have an 18-year-old daughter, Lea.
They initially lived in different countries, with Annie staying in Monaco while Wenger lived in London after taking over at Arsenal in 1996. However, weeks before the wedding, Wenger, 65, was reported to have become close to French rapper Sonia Tatar.

Volkswagen AG said Tuesday that some 11 million diesel vehicles worldwide were fitted with software at the center of a U.S. emissions scandal, and that it is setting aside around 6.5 billion euros ($7.3 billion) to cover the fallout. In the wake of the company's statement, the share price of the world's top-selling carmaker took another battering. In midday trading in Frankfurt, VW's share price was down another 18.8 percent at 108.45 euros and near a four-year low. The fall comes on top of Monday's hefty 17 percent decline.

The civil war in Syria has prompted the first withdrawal of seeds from a "doomsday" vault built in an Arctic mountainside to safeguard global food supplies. The seeds, including samples of wheat, barley and grasses suited to dry regions, have been requested by researchers elsewhere in the Middle East to replace seeds in a gene bank near the Syrian city of Aleppo that has been damaged by the war.

The question came up after the group filed their lawsuit in a San Francisco court, arguing that a macaque monkey who took a series of selfies should own the rights to those images. PETA argues that the proceeds from the pictures should be used for the benefit of Naruto, a 6-year-old macaque who lives on an Indonesian reserve, the Huffington Post reports.

Fidel Lopez, charged for disemboweling girlfriend

Fidel Lopez, 24, have been charged with first degree murder, after confessing to authorities that he became enraged with Nemeth when she called out her ex-husband's name during sex.
Lopez called the emergency services to his Florida home on Sunday morning, claiming his partner was having trouble breathing. Officers responding said they found him crying in the bathroom next to 31-year-old Maria Nemeth's naked body, the Associated Press reports.Police say Lopez initially told investigators that the couple had been having sex when Nemeth went into the bathroom, vomited and collapsed. After further questioning, Lopez revealed that he became enraged with Nemeth when she called out her ex-husband's name during sex and he attacked and disemboweled her.
Miami CBS Localreports Lopez told officers he and Nemeth had been indulging in rough sex after drinking tequila.

Apple store has been hit by its first major hack and hundreds and millions of iPhone and iPad users are reported to be at risk. The malicious code is found in some of China’s most popular Apps. Apparently, hackers convinced legitimate app developers to use fake Apple software. They were then able to embed malicious codes on popular Chinese apps. Messaging app WeChat, taxi app Didi Kuaidi and a music app were all hit and Apple says it has started removing the infected iPhone and iPad programs. The clean-up came after several cyber security firms reported finding a malicious program dubbed XcodeGhost embedded in hundreds of legitimate apps.

Japanese tourist falls and dies at Taj Mahal while taking a selfie

A tourist reportedly died after falling down a staircase at the Taj Mahal while trying to take a selfie. The tourist, identified as Hideto Ueda, a 66-year-old Japanese national, was trying to snap a photo at the mausoleum's Royal Gate when he and a friend both fell, according to the BBC, which cited an eyewitness. The man lost consciousness and was later pronounced dead at a hospital while the friend suffered a fractured leg, the news agency reported.

Rebecca Leaper, 54, was found dead on a bed in her home by her ex-husband Richard Mason, who she had told in a text she was ‘feeling unwell’. Taped to the door of the room was a note written by Ms Leaper reading, ‘I should be dead. Do not let(their daughter) Saskia in,’ the Metro reports. An inquest at Oxford Coroner’s Court revealed on Wednesday that a paramedic at the scene had noticed a tattoo on Ms Leaper’s chest reading ‘Do Not Resuscitate.’

Benjamin Kyle, of Jacksonville, Florida, was found naked, covered in fire ants and unresponsive in 2004 at a Burger King in Georgia. With no memory of his family or his identify, Kyle took on his current name as he searched for a link to his past, ABC News reports. Diagnosed with amnesia, Kyle spent years searching for his family. The search paid off when he announced this month he had finally found biological family members, reports Yahoo News.
