George Bush charges $100,000 as appearance fee for 2012 US veterans fundraiser

Ex-President George W. Bush was confirmed to have charged $100,000 in 2012 in order to guarantee his appearance and also to speak at a charity fundraiser for veterans wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan  war. It was also gathered that his wife, Laura, collected $50,000 just the year before to speak at a similar charity event for the same group.

The charity, Helping a Hero, helps to provide “specially-adapted homes” for wounded veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan to help “reintegrate them into their community”. There has been mixed reactions as to whether it is right for the president to collect such an amount for such a cause.

Former Marine Eddie Wright, who lost both hands in a rocket attack in Fallujah, Iraq in 2004 has been quoted saying "You sent me to war, I was doing what you told me to do, gladly for you and our country and I have no regrets. But it’s kind of a slap in the face.”
In addition to the fee charged, it was also reported that the former president was provided with a private jet to travel to the Houston-based charity at a cost of $20,000. Amidst all the uproar, the charity claims his attendance raised an extra $1 million!

  1. To be fair, his appearance rights might be out of his hands.. but G. Bush is still one special guy with issues all the same.
