Apple to unveil iPads with facial recognition


Apple Inc on Tuesday is expected to unveil updates to its Mac computers and iPads that include facial recognition features that have been available in the iPhone line-up at an event in Brooklyn.
Analysts expect a new versions of Apple’s iPad Pro, its higher-end tablet computer that competes with the Microsoft Surface, with thinner bezels and more screen space, along with the face unlock system found on Apple’s newer iPhones.

World Cup expansion to 48 teams possible by 2022 - Gianni Infantino


FIFA president Gianni Infantino said on Wednesday that football's governing body is looking into the possibility of increasing the number of teams at the 2022 World Cup and sharing the hosting rights of an expanded tournament with other nations in the region. FIFA decided earlier this year to expand the 2026 World Cup, to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico, to 48 teams from 32 while leaving the door open to raising the number playing in Qatar in four years' time.

Superstar footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo has now become the most followed person on Instagram, overtaking singer and actress Selena Gomez, who had been the most followed person for the past two years.
The Juventus and Portuguese star now has 144,305,164 followers to Gomez's 144,304,857.
The 33-year old also has over 120 million followers on Facebook as well as 75 million followers on Twitter.

The UN is investigating the alleged embezzlement of up to €5 billion that disappeared from accounts owned by Muammar Gaddafi, the former Libyan leader, according to Belgian MP Georges Gilkinet.
“UN documents confirm that Belgium failed to comply with a UN resolution on freezing Libyan assets,” he told the Belgian news network RTBF.

On Tuesday, former nurse Niels Hoegel admitted to killing 100 patients in his care, on the first day of his trial in the biggest serial killing case in Germany’s post-war history.   a1-year old Hoegel has already spent nearly a decade in prison on a life term for other patient deaths, and is accused of intentionally administering medical overdoses to victims so he could bring them back to life at the last moment. As the proceedings opened in the northern city of Oldenburg, presiding judge Sebastian Buehrmann asked whether the charges against him were accurate.

Morocco abruptly drops clock change


Morocco has decided to scrap winter time and will instead keep its clocks at summer time, GMT+1, all year around. The announcement comes less than two days before the clocks would have gone back by one hour on Sunday. Avoiding the switch would save "an hour of natural light", Administrative Reform Minister Mohammed Ben Abdelkader told Maghreb Arabe Press.

Canadian rapper Jon James falls to his death in music video stunt


A Canadian rapper has fallen to his death after walking along the wing of a Cessna plane as part of a music video shoot in Vernon, British Columbia.
Jon James McMurray, 34, walked to the edge of the wing, causing the aircraft to spiral downwards out of control.
McMurray failed to open his parachute because he held on to the plane for too long, his manager said. He died on impact in the accident on Saturday.

Painting of Jesus Christ survives fire


A fire gutted a 150-year-old Massachusetts church but a painting depicting Jesus Christ survived the blaze untouched. Severe thunderstorms were rolling through the Wakefield area late Tuesday when the First Baptist Church steeple was struck by lightning, sparking a seven-alarm blaze.
“We’re just devastated. It really hasn’t sunk in to all of us yet,” church moderator Melinda Parry told reporters.

Plane with 188 people on board crashes into sea


A Lion Air Boeing 737 passenger plane with 188 people on board has crashed into the sea shortly after taking off from the Indonesian capital, Jakarta. Flight JT 610 was on a scheduled flight to Pangkal Pinang, the main town in the Bangka Belitung Islands. It lost contact with ground control a few minutes after take-off, and is believed to have ended up underwater. The cause of the crash is not yet known and there has been no word yet of any survivors.

French 'spiderman' climbs London's Heron Tower


French daredevil climber Alain Robert is climbing London's Heron Tower while shocked office workers look on in horror. The illegal ascent of the 662ft (202m) tower is terrifyingly being performed with no safety gear, without a rope and with using his bare hands. Robert, 56, who is known for scaling skyscrapers across the world, said before his climb: "I fully feel alive when my life is at stake. It may sound a bit scary and crazy but this is the way it is."

The person behind the mail bombs sent to various prominent Democrats has been identified as Cesar Altier Sayoc. Cesar Altier Sayoc was taken into custody on Friday morning in Plantation, Florida, in connection with the 12 suspicious packages that were sent to critics of President Donald Trump this week.

A 39-year-old woman stormed a kindergarten in China and attacked children, leaving at least 14 injured, with many in critical condition.
The woman, identified only by her surname Liu, attacked the kids at the gate of Xinshiji Kindergarten as they returned from morning exercise with their teacher, police said. Armed with a kitchen knife, she slashed and stabbed the innocent youngster, some as young as three.

A Paraguayan beauty pageant winner swooned on stage after admitting the anticipation just before the announcement was unbearable. Miss Grand International 2018 Clara Sosa fell as soon as she was announced this year’s winner. At the time, she was holding hands with the first runner-up, Meenakshi Chaudhary of India, who tried to help but failed to catch Sosa as she collapsed and hit the floor.

Man desperate for a son sells his 10-day-old daughter to strangers for £4,500


A father has been detained in east China for selling his newborn daughter. The man, who was desperate for a son, was disappointed that his second child turned out to be a daughter as well, according to Yiwu police in Zhejiang province. He sold the 10-day-old baby to a couple in another province for 4,000 yuan (£4,500) in late September. His mother reported him to the police after realising that her granddaughter had gone missing.

Samsung is suing one of its brand ambassadors after she was caught on TV using an iPhone X. Usually, brands pay celebrities a huge amount of money to promote their brands and front only their brands in public. Samsung has paid celebrities like musician Adam Levine and tennis star David Ferrer to use Samsung smartphones. But, both of those celebrities have been caught using iPhones instead. Now, Samsung is done letting it slide.

Macedonian parliament votes to approve name change


The Macedonian parliament has passed constitutional changes to allow the Balkan country to change its name to the Republic of North Macedonia, as agreed to with Greece. A total of 80 deputies in the 120-seat parliament on Friday voted in favour of the name change.
The move could unblock the country's bids to join NATO and the European Union, long blocked by Greece, which argues that "Macedonia" implied territorial claims to a Greek province of the same name.

Angela Merkel to step down as German chancellor in 2021


Germany's Angela Merkel has said she will step down as chancellor in 2021, following recent election setbacks.
"I will not be seeking any political post after my term ends," she told a news conference in Berlin.
She also said she would not seek re-election as leader of the centre-right CDU party in December. She has held the post since 2000.

British Formula 1 athlete, Lewis Hamilton has won his fifth F1 world championship, making him the joint second most successful driver of all time. The 33-year-old won the title at the Mexican Grand Prix on Sunday night after he finished fourth. Lewis needed only to finish seventh even if his opponent Sebastian Vettel won the race to become champion - but the German could manage only second place behind the dominant Max Verstappen.

Thai cave survivors meet Jose Mourinho during their trip to watch Manchester United VS Everton at Old Trafford


The 12 children who were rescued from flooded caves in Thailand a few months ago will be at Old Trafford today to watch Manchester United play against Everton.    The youngsters, all members of a junior football team, were rescued in July after being trapped for over two weeks. Their plight gained worldwide attention and in the aftermath the children were invited to a United game by the club's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward. 

6-year-old girl sexually assaulted by two 7-year-old boys after they watched porn on smartphones in school


A six-year-old girl is alleged to have been sexually assaulted by two seven-year-old boys in a school in Australia just after they watched porn on their phones, local media reports. Despite claims the assault was of "high-level", the police at the time failed to carry out appropriate investigations because the accused were minors under 10.

Leicester City Football Club confirms owner's death in helicopter crash


The beloved owner of Leicester City Football Club died in a helicopter crash on Saturday near the club's stadium in Leicester, England, the club said Sunday.
Thai billionaire Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, 60, was one of five people on board the aircraft when it burst into flames after crashing in a parking lot next to King Power Stadium, the club said. No one on board survived.

Kenyan nurse charged with raping elderly patient


A 44-year-old Kenyan nurse has been charged with raping an elderly woman in the United States.
Thomas Kamau Nganga was reported by his colleague who caught him forcing himself on a 72-year-old patient.
An administrator at the nursing home where Mr Nganga worked, Lexington Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Richmond, Virginia, said the suspect was fired after he was arrested.
Mr Nganga was detained at Henrico County Jail with no bond and is due in court in December. According to court documents, Nganga is married and with children.

A man has been fined £58 for beating up a thug who was attacking an 88-year-old grandmother.
The attacker had pinned frail Klara Melamed to the ground and broken her bones before have-a-go hero Leonid Shchepel rushed to help. Leonid had now been told he must pay 5,000 Russian rubles (£58) for booting her attacker in the face.

Google sacks dozens over sexual harassment


Google has sacked 48 people including 13 senior managers over s-xual harassment claims since 2016. In a letter to employees, chief executive Sundar Pichai said the tech giant was taking a "hard line" on inappropriate conduct. The letter was in response to a New York Times report that Android creator Andy Rubin received a $90m exit package despite facing misconduct allegations. A spokesman for Mr Rubin denied the allegations, the newspaper said.

Cathay Pacific data hack hits 9.4 million passengers


Cathay Pacific says the personal data of up to 9.4 million passengers have been accessed in the latest security breach to hit the aviation industry. Passport numbers, email addresses and expired credit card details were among the data leaked. Chief executive Rupert Hogg apologised and said there was "no evidence" the information had been misused.

Hurricane Michael: 'World's biggest peanut' cracked by fierce winds


Residents of a southern US city hope to raise tens of thousands of dollars to restore a statue of a giant peanut damaged by Hurricane Michael.
"I'm from the town with the big peanut," is how petition founder Sarah Mastrario Cook says locals of Ashburn, Georgia, proudly identify themselves. But the campaign to "Restore Ashburn's Big Peanut" has some way to go before reaching its target of $50,000 (£38,350) in donations. So far, a modest $725 has been raised.
