Man sang and played his guitar during brain surgery

Dias singing and playing his guitar during the surgery
33-year-old Anthony Kullkamp Dias sang and strummed his guitar to stay awake during a procedure to remove a tumor from his brain. According to the Hospital Nossa Senhora da Conceicao, he played “Yesterday" by the Beatles, a few Brazilian songs and an original number called "Emanuel", which he dedicated to his son. “The doctors asked me to repeat one of the country songs so I even had an encore,” Dias told Brazilian news website G1.

It was necessary for the Brazilian man to be active during surgery in order to monitor and map his brain for possible injuries to areas that control motor function and speech which may be damaged by removing the tumor.

Dias has played the guitar professionally for 20 years and can also play the accordion, keyboard, trumpet and the flute.
