‘Blame us for giving our son a loaded gun’, parents of teenager who shot and killed a friend knocking on his bedroom window pleads

15-year-old MacKeon ‘Mackey’ Schulte was shot and killed as he and a friend tried to wake up Seth Culver at about 2.30am. The three teenagers attended high school together in Billings, Montana and were no strangers. Apparently, Culver was startled by the noise at his window and thus, he grabbed a World War II-era .38-caliber handgun given to him as a present by his father and shot once through the glass, hitting MacKeon in the head.

In an exclusive interview with The Associated Press (AP), Culver’s parents, Len and Regina Culver, blame themselves for allowing the teenager to keep a loaded gun in his room and they are saying he shouldn't face criminal charges over what they describe as a tragic accident.

According to Len Culver, 60, he had instructed his son on how to handle weapons responsibly, enrolling him in a hunter safety course when the boy was 13. Culver said he didn't know until police told him on the morning of the shooting that it's generally illegal under federal law for a person under 18 to possess a handgun.
As a prosecutor moves to put the case before a special jury to decide on charges, the May shooting has revived the debate over the so-called Castle Doctrine that sometimes allows the use of lethal force to defend one's home. It's also raised questions about the 17-year-old shooter's easy access to the handgun, given his age. Regardless of whether the killing was intentional, police and outside experts have said Culver could face charges if it is determined that he disregarded the risks of not identifying his target before pulling the trigger
This is definitely looking like an Oscar Pistorius’ case.....not identifying a target before pulling the trigger!
