Retired British woman killed, husband critically injured in South Africa seaside home

Christine Davis, 65 and her husband, 67-year-old Brian Davis were attacked and injured by suspected robbers who are believed to have raided their retirement home in Knysna, South Africa. Christine was stabbed several times in the neck thus leading to her death while Brian was beaten over the head with a blunt instrument.
They were discovered by neighbours who found the couple’s dog wandering in the street outside and became concerned. Police believe the couple were attacked sometime between Saturday evening and Sunday morning and say their car, a green Isuzu Wizard, their television, two laptops and a tablet are missing from their rented house in Knysna, a south coast town famed for its clear waters and annual oyster festival. Knysna also boasts of a stunning wildlife, and has regularly been seen as a tourist hotspot that attracts many British expats looking for a new life abroad
When the couple failed to answer phone calls or the doorbell, the neighbours went into the house. They found Mrs Davis fatally injured inside the house and Mr Davis in the garage.
According to reports, murder rate has started to climb again, along with the rate of violent household robbery since the end of apartheid and advent of democracy in South Africa. In the period 2013/14, there were 17,068 murders in a country of 52m people, an average of 47 per day, a figure around five times higher than the global average. House robberies have increased by 7.4 per cent to 19,284 incidents in 2013/14, around 53 attacks per day.
