Luke Shaw of Manchester United suffers double leg fracture during their Champions League match defeat to PSV

Shaw clutches his right leg in agony
Manchester United have confirmed that their left back for the match, Luke Shaw suffered a double fracture of the right leg in their Champion’s League defeat to PSV Eindhoven. The unfortunate injury happened in the 15th minute following a shocking challenge from PSV's Hector Moreno, which went unpunished. England defender Shaw, who needed nine minutes of treatment from medics on the pitch, will be transferred to Manchester tomorrow, where he will undergo an operation to repair the double fracture, the Mirror reports.

The injury, which overshadowed United's return to the Champions League group stage after missing the competition last season, has brought a savagely cruel premature end to Shaw's season. Although United team-mate Antonio Valencia, who suffered a broken leg and dislocated ankle against Rangers in the Champions League back in 2010, was back playing within five months, the scenario looks more bleak for Shaw.
The team’s manager Louis van Gaal said: "Luke has a double leg fracture so he is in the hospital, he shall be transferred tomorrow, with us maybe, otherwise a day later, and he shall be operated on in Manchester probably.
"It is awful. The boy who comes at 18 years old to Manchester, has a very difficult season and next season, his second season, he plays fantastic, then this happens.
“When he was going in the dressing room he was wearing the oxygen mask and was crying.
“You can judge for yourself. When I say it is a penalty and a red card then I am a bad loser. It was a very bad tackle I think, with two legs
Asked if his players lost their focus because of the injury to Shaw, van Gaal said: “You cannot prove that. I don't think so, but you never know.

PSV coach Phillip Cocu said: “It's a very bad injury. If any player goes off with this kind of injury, everybody is very sad about it. Also our players, because it's never the intention of our player to injure an opponent.
“He [Moreno] has found it very difficult, because the intention was not to injure the opponent, and when you hear it is a very bad injury, it's not good.
“For me it was not possible to see the moment. The only thing I could see was the ball, which was heading in a different direction, so it looked like he [Moreno] touched it, but I couldn't see the tackle on Luke.”
