Dangers of ‘duct tape challenge’

A Seattle mother is warning others of the dangers of the latest internet challenge after her son nearly lost his life taking it. It’s called the duct tape challenge. The challenge asks one teenager to wrap another teen in duct tape and time how long it takes them to break free, KIRO-TV reported. The challenge quickly went viral with several teens uploading videos of themselves taking on the challenge. But when 14-year-old Skylar Fish took the challenge, he nearly lost his life.
“I'm just, actually, really lucky to be alive,” Skylar told KIRO-TV from his hospital bed at Harborview Medical Center, where he’s been recovering since the incident on Jan. 16.
Skylar accidentally slammed his head into the concrete and suffered a brain aneurysm during the challenge. He received 48 staples and lost vision in one of his eyes.

“When he fell, he hit the corner of the window frame,” Skylar’s mom, Sarah Fish, said. “It crushed his whole eye socket and pinched off nerves in his eye.
“It was really scary, just seeing my son like this," she added.
Skylar doesn’t know if he’s ever going to get his vision back in that eye. He said he is just grateful to be alive.
“Teach other kids not to do it,” Skylar explained. “When I think about it, I become sad and then really happy, because I'm happy, because I survived it. I almost died.”
Sarah told Fox 13 that Skylar’s brain surgery was a success. He will remain in the hospital for another 10 days in recovery.
