Surgeons remove 18 inch yucca root from man's anus after using it as a sex aid

After more than an hour on the operating table, a yucca root to the length of 18 inches was reportedly removed from an unnamed 55-year-old man after he was found using it as a sex aid. To fix the severe physical damage, the surgeons at the San Juan de Dios Hospital, in the capital city of Costa Rica had to reconstruct the man’s anus along with part of his intestines. Using edible material as a sex aid can be a fetish for some. Local paper the Diario Extra reports the patient was rushed to the emergency room after one of the two latex condoms wrapped around the Manihot esculenta - which had an estimated girth of more than three inches - ripped inside him. Luckily, experts found the rectum was not perforated, a situation that may have resulted in a dangerous secondary peritoneal inflammation and infection.

A video of the operation shows the yucca had been carved into a phallic shape, thus making the manioc a sort of an organic sex toy. Sexologist Mauro Fernandez said sex with vegetables was quite a common fetish. He said food play was a sitophilia whereby individuals can be aroused by situations that involve edible matter. According to a 2014 article in Women’s Health Magazine, nurses in Chicago explained that female patients are sometimes admitted due to vaginal insertion of cucumbers, bananas and hot dogs.
