DHL cargo plane overshoots the runway at Italian airport before crashing on to busy road
A DHL cargo jet plane has overshot a runway at an Italian airport before crashing on to a busy road. The jet, which had flown from Paris in France, smashed through barriers before coming to rest in front of stunned motorists driving past Bergamo Airport in the country's north. Dramatic pictures show the nose of the ASL Airlines Boeing 737-400, which was chartered by courier firm DHL, wedged across an airport ring road. Other photos show the path of destruction left by the jet as it skidded off the runway and across an area of grass.
More pictures after the cut
The landing gear can be seen lying on the road after being wrenched free from the bottom of the plane while another images shows a crumpled jet engine. Local media said the incident happened during bad weather in the area after flight 7332 had arrived from Paris Charles De Gaulle. Incredibly, no one was reported to have been hurt in the crash and the three crew members were unharmed. Pictures show an inflatable chute leading from an opened cabin door.
