14-year-old rape victim kills herself after court cut rapist’s prison sentence

Megan Hoyle

A rape victim committed suicide after learning that a court has reduced the prison sentence of her attacker, according to police in the United Kingdom. 14-year-old Megan Hoyle of Blackburn, was found unconscious following a drug overdose in the living room of her parents’ home. According to the police investigation, a 17-year-old boy raped Hoyle, when she was just 12 years old. Hoyle was strong and filed a police report about the attack.
Thanks to her testimony, the suspect was arrested and convicted of indecent assault. However, the rapist appealed the prison sentence and a higher court reduced it. Hoyle became extremely depressed when she learned that her rapist was given just a slap on the wrist. Hoyle apologized to her family and boyfriend before swallowing a large amount of prescription pills. She collapsed in the living room of her parents’ home. Hoyle’s mother, 46-year-old Wendy Charnley, found her daughter unconscious on the living room floor and called for help. Hoyle was rushed to a hospital, where she died four days later.
