Florida couple charged with reporting a false crime after attempting to pull off an elaborate insurance scam.
Doug Teixeira and Lindsey Pelton a Florida couple have been arrested after concocting an elaborate scheme to deceive insurance vendors to ‘collect payday’. Along with staging a home invasion, Teixeira, 35 and Pelton, 36 went the extra mile and shot themselves as well, hoping to convince investigators that they were legitimate victims. According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal the Florida couple called authorities Oct. 26, to say that two men broke into their Deltona home and shot them. Officers arrived to find the married couple suffering gunshot wounds along with claiming that $7,000 was taken from a safe.
‘Their story was that two guys entered the house and one shot her in the arm and when he came out he was shot in the leg but we were able to determine no one broke into their home,’ Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Chitwood told the News-Journal. It all might have worked except for the give away ‘I forgot to pack away’ evidence that exposed the couple. While investigating the scene, deputies became skeptical upon finding bleach and dry blood in the home.
Told Chitwood, ‘If this incident just occurred and they called police right away, why would you have dried blood and why do we have bleach all over the house.’
Pelton’s father, Carson Tyler, called investigators to find out more information about the alleged robbery, while telling investigators the couple didn’t have money to rob. Noted a follow up police report, ‘Carson stated neither Lindsey or Doug ‘have two pennies to rub together,’
Adding, ‘Carson said he knew his daughter and she had probably ‘never seen $7,000 in her life.’’
Come Tuesday, the orlandosentinel reported our collective heroes being booked on charges of reporting a false crime. Teixeira also faces charges for tampering with physical evidence and giving false information to law enforcement officers investigating a felony. Surely there must be an easier less elaborate way to collect $7000 in America, unless perhaps there isn’t!
