China outraged by claims it’s been spying on AU meetings

The Chinese have reacted with outrage over allegations that they have been spying on African Union meetings. Chinese ambassador to the AU Kuang Weilin has called a report in on this issue “sensational”.
The allegations were published in French newspaper Le Monde that the Chinese might have been transferring sensitive information from servers in the continental body’s headquarters in Addis Ababa to Shangai. Weilin said the story was “preposterous”. He said he found it very difficult to understand why a serious newspaper like Le Monde could publish such a story.
The Chinese government built and paid for the AU headquarters in 2012 as a friendly gift to African leaders, but there according to reports, they also built in access for themselves to the AU’s computer servers.
The AU has declined to respond to the story.
