Cyril Ramaphosa has been elected president of South Africa


Cyril Ramaphosa was elected President of South Africa unopposed in the National Assembly on Thursday afternoon. Ramaphosa's candidacy was nominated by ANC backbencher Patrick Maesela and seconded by his colleague Joan Fubbs. Non of the opposition parties nominated a presidential candidate.
The ANC leader was congratulated by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng who president over the election. The election comes a day after Jacob Zuma reluctantly resigned.
