Parents who were told newborn son died in hospital discover he is alive 7 years later

A couple who mourned the loss of their newborn son for 7 years discovered that he is alive. The couple in Russia believed that their young son had died in 2011. The couple, who lives in Volgograd, gave birth to a baby who had medical complications. A doctor told the couple that their newborn son would die within a week. The parents made the difficult decision to leave the baby in the care of the hospital until his death. They signed all the necessary paperwork to hand the rights to the child over to the hospital.
Five days later, the couple had a change of heart as they realized that they could not live with a clear conscience and returned for the child.
They wanted to be with their son in his final days, the Federal Bailiff Service of Russia said in a press release. However, hospital officials told the couple that the boy had already died. Seven years passed and the couple learned in a rather unsettling way that there had been a mixup at the hospital and that their son is still alive.
The Federal Bailiff Service confiscated a substantial amount of money from the mother’s bank account. When she questioned as to why the money was withdrawn, she was told that she owed 230,000 rubles (about $4,000), to a group home that had been raising her son since his birth.
The parents immediately appealed to the court for the return of their parental rights. A judge agreed and the overjoyed couple reunited with their son.
