Deputy punished after son used patrol car to pull over his former girlfriend and rob her new boyfriend
A police deputy will have to pay a price for a crime that was carried out by his son, according to police in Florida. According to an Internal Affairs report, Lt. David Combs of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office violated department policies after allowing his son to use his unmarked patrol car. 23-year-old Christopher Combs was a sheriff’s cadet when he was arrested by Broward County Sheriff’s deputies after he allegedly used the patrol car to pull over his ex-girlfriend’s car. Combs was fired from his cadet position after his arrest.
His father, David Combs, was also punished after he admitted that he allowed his son to take the car and fill it with gas. However, police said he was supposed to get permission from his superiors before handing over the car to anyone and his son was not allowed to use the vehicle for personal business.
David Combs permanently lost the privilege of taking home a police vehicle. He was also suspended for 40 hours, the sheriff’s office said. According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, Christopher Combs followed his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend. Christopher Combs activated the car’s emergency lights and pulled over the couple’s vehicle. He made the pair walk towards the patrol car with their hands up and lie down on the ground. Christopher and an accomplice then allegedly stole the man’s belongings, authorities said.
Christopher Combs was charged with robbery, impersonating a police officer, and false imprisonment. He is awaiting trial, court records show.
