A 7-year-old girl convinced the New Zealand Transport Agency to change its sexist road signs

A seven-year-old girl made the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) change its signs by pointing out that “women can be line-workers too.”
According to the Guardian, Zoe Carew decided to write a letter to the agency last month after noticing signs along the road that seemed unfair to her.  Next to the people working on the power lines along the road, there was a bright orange sign that read “LINEMEN.” Zoe and her family talked about the sign and “wondered why it said ‘MEN’ when women can be line-workers too,” she wrote in her letter.

“Why does the sign say ‘LINEMEN’ when the people working on the lines may be men or women?” wrote Zoe. “I think that this sign is wrong and unfair.”
And the best part? They agreed with her!
Fergus Gammie, the chief executive of the NZTA, wrote back to Zoe and said they thought she was right. Fergus said that all roadside signs will be changed to read “LINE CREW.”
According to the letter, “the new signs will replace the old ones when they need replacement due to wear and tear, this may take some time.” Fergus also commended Zoe “for taking action where you think something unfair should be fixed. Well done.”
